Just about a year ago I sold my beloved Wrangler to buy my first bus - a '78 Westy. I've had a great time with it, but I miss being able to drive off road like I did in my jeep - I'm due for a rebuild in a few months anyway, and I have a fantasy in my head that I'll be able to find someone to put in a bigger engine along with a 4wd transmission. Is this possible? I'm in the early stages of research, and figured someone much more knowledgeable than myself must know the answer to this... any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Matt. |

| While anything is possible with enough time and money I think you'd be better with a Vanagon Synchro. A couple 4x4 Bay Buses were built as prototypes in the 70s. It CAN be done, but probably too much trouble. |

| I believe VW built 5 prototype synchro bay buses in late 77/early 78. I have a couple of pics of them. As far as I know, the only surviving one is in the VW museum in Germany. If anyone wants it, I can email it to them. My address is aufever@prodigy.net |
