View original topic: Narrowing Repro Gas Burners?

I've decided to run repro Gas Burners on my 71 bug. I know they only come in 5.5 wide but don't like the look of 145's on 5.5 rims; they look too narrow for the wider wheel. Does anyone have any rough idea of what it would cost to have the front pair narrowed to 4.5 inches?

Aloha from Hawaii, I am running 175/55-15's in front on my 6.5" Konig wheels. EXCELLENT turning, looks and filling of the rim width. I really reccomend these tires. I got mine sent to me from Blackgold in Texas. Good luck with your project. Aloha Rdog

There is a thread here in the Custom Wheel/Tire forum about narrowing aluminum wheels. It was current just a month or so ago. Do a search.

A guy had his wheel cut and then a shelf machined on one or both sides that allowed them to be pressed back together and then welded from the backside.

Found it. Click on the link to the Jalopy Journal. I like the way he did his better.

Thanks chickengeorge, that's an awsome thread on the H.A.M.B. I'm going to check with a local machine shop this week. I'll post pics when i get it done.

My local wheel shop charges $150 to chop a wheel. They've done hundreds of them.
