| I've installed dual 40 IDF's on a late 70's 2.0L (installed in a '74 bay)and have had problems from the get-go. I've tried everything, including taking it to two different expert VW shops and still it stumbles when accelerating from shift change in 2nd, 3rd, & 4th gears. On advice from Redline Weber, I replaced the 28mm venturis with 32's and settled on 55 idle jets, 130 mains, 200 air corr., and F11 emulsion tubes. I've broken 'em down and cleaned every orifice & jet, checked float bowl settings (set at 11.5 & 19.5mm) installed rebuild kits, tried two different linkage assemblies, and installed a fuel gauge between the carbs (which reads a rock steady 2.5 psi). The #4 cyl is weird in that the engine doesn't sputter and stall when I dial the idle mixture screw all the way in. Also, using a unisyn with the engine at idle, the red indicator barely reaches the first line on both carbs, and the idle decreases a bit. I think I've eliminated the possibility of a vacumm leak, but I'm not positive. Also, I'm running a 2-tip Monza type exhaust, which the only variable I haven't messed with. I'm at my wit's end. Anybody? Pleeeeeezz help! |
