| how much time is required to replace intake seals on a 2 liter fuel injected engine in a '72 bus? now how long will it take the novice mechanic? and what are the best replacement seals on the market? an A & P friend has recommended "the red silicone ones." |

How did you get a FI in a 72 Bus? Seems like the wiring harness install would be a pain!
Well I'm sure there are alot of people who can answer this, but since you asked....
I personally would get 4 new pieces of the factory braided type intake hose, and make sure the phenalic(bakelite plastic) blocks are good when you put the runner tubes on.
They are the only thing I use on the original fuel injection runners and center section.
The red silicone boots your friend is referring too are probably the type 1 dual port intake boots which are also used on the Weber Progressive intake runners when using that setup....
I'd say it would be about 2-3 hours ( if indeed you have a 72 with no access hatch over the engine) taking you time to clean up all the surfaces ect.
I would only take off one side of the runners at a time... I use a thin smear of wheel bearing ( yellowish brown not the darker type) grease on the insides of the new intake hoses and "aviation" gasket sealant on the outer gasket area on the runners...
Good luck! |
