ok, i'm not very knowledgeable about the mechanics of my bus...but this is what the situation is: it was running perfect until i got the oil changed, then it seemed to feel and sound dry (the only way i can describe it)then i ran out of gas way sooner than i should have, now something is way wrong because it jerks while driving it especially around 25mph-30mph...what could be wrong? any advice would be appreciated. also i am new to southern california (oceanside) and am looking for a good reliable mechanic, anyone know where i should go?

If you got the oil change at a chain store oil change place they probably checked a variety of things when they changed the oil. Most of these places will at least check the air filter to see if it needs replaced and then try to sell you one if needs replacing. Same thing with windshield wipers, washer fluid, etc. Chances are the technician checked the air filter and knocked off a vacuum hose somewhere. I would take it back to the shop and have them look at it. All this is assuming you have a 1975-79 fuel injected bus. I'm not sure what "dry" sounds like so I can't help you there. Good luck and take care.

i got the oil changed at a specific vw repair shop, not one of those drive-thru jiffylube type places. my bus is a 79. i do plan on taking it back there so they could check it out but am now leery of them since it was supposed to be a simple oil change, and it WAS running great before i took it there. thanks for the input.

It's still possible they performed a courtesy check of your air filter and knocked a vacuum hose loose. If they are familiar with VW busses then it shouldn't take them long to find the problem. Good luck.

ok, i was thinking that since i ran out of gas, would this cause problems with my fuel injection?
