Can anyone identify this VW (if it indeed is one)?

Thanks,

where is it? I see it's RHD but I don't reconise the flags, are they a countrys national flag or just some kind of flag? It has wide 5 wheels and the seats look a bit beetleish. Whats the vents on the bonnet? Is there an engine under there? did you take anymore photos? Do you know what that chimney type thing is? Maybe a chimney?

I am wondering why the spare is on the side of the car, as if the engine is in the front, there should be room to store the wheel in the back, was there another wheel on the other side?

It looks quite nice, but quite insane

The flag is of India so that would account for why it is a RHD, but no idea what it is!

Quite like it though.

I found out that it's a replica of a WW2 Tempo G1200. This one is built on VW running gear (allegedly on a Typ 4 chassis, but I thought typ4 had McPherson in front).

I googled more on the G1200. Though it was not based on a VW Tempo did build the Matador with a VW engine a few years later. The G1200 apparently had 2 engines -- one in front and the other at the back.

This car is in Mumbai, India.

Those tires in the middle are used to keep the vehicle from bottoming out over large humps. A spare tire wouldn't have fenders on it. They can also be used as a spare if needed though.

VW toyed with that idea on the early kubelwagen prototypes.
