  View original topic: Off Topic?

I posted this question below in the Off Topic forum, I didn't think it was that offensive but got deleted right away. Curiosity really has the cat, what is taboo in this forum or is it fairly discretionary?

Quote: Out of curiosity why do users hide their online status?

Post up hidden members.

Russ Wolfe Sat Feb 09, 2008 6:38 pm

Some members, like me, are pestered contantly with questions. So I don't advertise my online status.

Glenn Sat Feb 09, 2008 6:40 pm

He's asking why the original was deleted from Off Topic.

Paul D Sat Feb 09, 2008 6:54 pm

I never understood quite why, but that definitely gives reason to do that.

Russ Wolfe wrote: Some members, like me, are pestered contantly with questions. So I don't advertise my online status.

Yes that was my question. I always try to play within the rules and didn't think it was a bad of a question from the off topic forum guidelines.

It was deleted because of this:

Let's respect their privacy.

Some people prefer to remain hidden so they don't get pestered if they are online. I switch back and forth sometimes.

I didn't mean any disrespect by my question to other members, and if it was taken that way I apologize.

Personal curiosity got the best of me here.

I hope I am within boundaries by treating this thread as a general 'Off-Topic' help thread.

While we're off-topic, I feel the need to inquire about the locking of the Labrador Retriever Attack thread. What happened there? With the exception of a few dumb pictures that were posted, I felt that there was a legitimate discussion in the works. It was quite entertaining while it lasted.

Being that I am an active memeber of local and nationwide anti-BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) communities, I was getting into the subject quite extraordinarily. I am enthusiastic about participating in topics such as these because I enjoy sharing my views on this subject and I am entertained by learning what views other forum members might have.

I feel sorta, cut off. Almost sensored. And it sucks ass let me tell you. I mean, I know that there are threads that have gotten outta hand in the past, like ones based on race and religion, and for specific reasons it is accepted that we no longer create issues about those "sensitive" subjects. But dogs?

Just a guess, but this is hardly a civil discussion about dogs:

I doubt if the dumb pictures helped much either.

Looks like it decended into insults and dumb photos to me...

He took a jab at me Coad, so I jabbed him right back. The individual off-topic picture posts should have been deleted, not the entire thread locked.

Why do choose to quote and criticize HALF of my original post? Just a guess, but I know you read the second half of the post, but for some reason you omit that information here. The rest of my post was within forum guidlines and was on topic.

spoon wrote: Listen, you stated that "Pit Bulls (not Pit Bull types, which would have been accurate) are known to make up the highest percentage of dog and animal attacks, and are also known for doing the most damage per attack." While I don't completely disagree with you here, I was simply asking YOU for a link stating these facts. What? Is there like a meter that measures the amount of damage a particular breed of dog does per attack? A damage-per-attack-o-meter?

Anyway, the APBT has a bad rap and it's not the dogs' fault. http://www.badrap.org/rescue/index.cfm

Haha, that made me laugh just as much as I laughed when I saw the "did she have bacon grease on her hand?" comment.

I don't recall taking a jab at all, infact I looked at the thread again, and nothing uncivil or off topic came from me! You took a Jab calling the pit bull thread poster a "snatch" And the end result is the pointless thread got deleted!

spoon Thu Feb 28, 2008 12:34 am

Indeed I called him a 'snatch'. I felt his comments about the subject a bit offensive. I was flipping him off, so to speak, yet still trying to contribute to the thread.

In comes the Demon Cleaner (or Daemon Cleaner). He called me on it, which was unexpected, but nonetheless, an act I considered a 'jab'. If I remember correctly his words were "blah blah blah. That makes a whole lot of sense." as if to make a mockery of my previous post. So I called him an 'old man', as if to portray a father (DMNCLNR) running across the playground in an attempt to save a young boy (I forgot his name) whom after mouthing off to...

You know what? Other than the name-calling, I feel that there was information being contributed to the thread. The pointless pictures could have been deleted... and the vile language could have been edited. We wouldn't be here right now talking about what and how we were talking in another thread. Instead we would be in said thread, contributing (hopefully) in an attempt to educate/entertain eachother. Oh well, I guess I didn't realize how pure thesamba.com has gotten.

For the record, other than the 'jabs' contained within my postings, I feel that everything within my postings conformed with the rules and regulations stated by Ev here,

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=276153

I don't know what happened to the people that posted the stupid pictures, whether they were punished for "o Unrelated photos (pudding, etc.) with the intention of 'derailing' a thread." All I know is my thread got deleted. Those bastards won!

And if your Mother were a moderator I'm sure that's exactly what would have happened.

Sadly, no one else felt like wasting the tiny fraction of their life that cleaning up that thread would have required.

Sorry, but my time is too valuable to me to waste it trying to save a stupid topic on the interweb.

From the Rules Announcement here in the Site forum:

Quote: Since it is MUCH easier to delete a whole thread than individual messages, if there is a large amount of garbage, the entire thing will be deleted, regardless of whether it had any useful information in it. This includes portions of a thread, i.e. moderators delete "from this point forward".

This is the main reason.

Sometimes I clean stuff up, sometimes it goes away or is locked.
