Wife and I are selling her old car. Her pap bought it new in 91, special ordered the diesel from Deutschland! She has driven it since she was 16, and giving in to the 08 Mazda 3 has been a bit of a process for her, but she has resigned, and we are selling the old girl (car, not wife!!):
1991 4 door Jetta, 1.6L diesel, 230,000 miles
Still runs like a champ, some cosmetic flaws
50 Horses of fury! :)
48 mpg
any guesses what it will bring?

| Probably anywhere's from $800-$1,500. If you're willing to wait a good long while, maybe a bit more. |

| I would have traded it in on the new Mazda. You'll end up wasting too much time dicking around selling a $1000 car. |

Agreed that diesals are hot now but 3K seems a tad rich. |

Truth. Cheap cars are always the hardest to sell... |

:) funny, the dealership wanted to give us $350 in trade for it (no way in heck!). the salesman at the dealership offered me $1250 for it, personally. it won't be hard to sell a diesel pulling down this kind of mileage with today's fuel prices.
I have three folks interested here locally. just trying to get an idea of what is fair to charge. |

No one that I am aware of uses Blue Book. Insurance adjusters and dealerships use NADA. |

| Yes diesels are wanted. If the motor really only has that mileage on it (we all know the odometers fail all the time) I would say $1500. That is if the rust is not that bad. Any of the price books are off (low). We have one with 333,333 on it and the od misses often and another that we figure has over 400,000. |

well i got on NADA and found this
1991 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan 4D GL Diesel
Mileage - 230,000 miles TOTAL PRICE is
low retail
$600
Clean Retail Value
$1,250
High Retail
$1,650
so i think NADA its about the same as kelleybluebook |

No, they are different. KBB gets nit-picky about the scratches, mechanics and all that. |

| I agree about Diesels being "the shit" , but $3K????? Jesus, let's be realistic. High mileage car, obvious exterior defects, surely the same or similar inside. I'm not saying your car's a POS, amishman, I'm just saying if you set your expectations from posts like Lind's (BTW, Lind I think that POS you're trying to buy is worth 35K....from my lips to the owners ears...LOL j/k), you're bound to be frustrated and disapointed. You never know, though. There's one born every minute |
