I have a '90 Jetta GL 1.8 8V auto with 192k miles
Over the past year I have developed a problem when the car is cold and I go to accelerate, it experiences serious dead spots. The whole car just looses steam and dies off. If I keep on the gas it struggles and chugs along, but if i let off and then gas it on and off I can keep going. I'm not sure if its injectors or an electrical sensor. Anyone hear of a problem like this? I'd like to get it taken care before it gets worse.

ah sorry, I've had this Jetta since '99 (my first car) I'm deff. keeping it around. I figure once it hits 200k I'll take it out of daily driver use, and keep it for sunny day driving. Few more years and it will be a classic.

Sorry to burst your bubble

LOOK at the ground wires at the intake manifold near the coil. Pull on them . Or look at the switches on the throttle body . Top and bottom.

I had similar issue with my '88. Lemme ask you, were it raining or wet just prior to the issues? If so, your rain tray may be cracked and your ECU may be taking on water.

Also, check the coil
