Noticed I had an oil leak last night that looked like it was coming from under the engine. I crawl under and find there is oil pooled in a few places and almost looks like oil shot up and onto the engine.
Checked the oil level and there were small air bubbles on the dipstick. I need to check it again after it's been sitting, but I checeked just a few minutes after running it pretty hard on the freeway. I can also faintly smell burnt oil. I'm assuming it's not coolant because it's not frothy and white, but looks like small air bubbles.

Oil pressure seems good still... REALLY hoping it's not a head gasket issue or something.

And car is an '86 Cabriolet and has an additional oil cooler and oil filter adapter installed by previous owner...

I've always been told that bubbles on the stick indicate water(or coolant) in the oil.....change the oil and filter, and see if it's just contaminated oil.

To trace the oil leak, you first need to completely degrease the engine and let it dry. Start it up and let it get up to operating temp at idle, and watch for any oil - it might take a while if you have a very slow leak. Don't drive it to find the leak, as the circulating air disperses the oil all over the place and makes tracing the source impossible.

Looks like my minor annoying issue is now a major one... commuting this morning and after 20 minutes tons of white smoke starts pouring out of the engine bay. Pull over, pop hood... engine is soaked with oil... front to back, top to bottom... and I have NO clue where it's coming from... this sux. Mostly cuz I don't have the money to fix the car... oh well...

Anyone have any ideas where to start looking for the leak... ugh!

Clean the engine off completely, top the oil off and start it up and let it run and look around to see where it's coming from. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out where it's leaking now. You said it has an aftermarket? oil cooler on it? I'd check the hoses for holes. That'll spray oil everywhere.
