No problem, the Squareback is light compared with a bus. Okay, and you are? I have a hard time with names, but I remember Lee. Maybe because he is memorable, and I have nothing since when you left, you left when I did, then I came back, and left with Lee. Boy, never been that tired.

I love the '09 countdown! A friend who went last year (Joe, red '71 Squareback) has said he wants to go again, so we plan on coming together on Thursday, 4 June, 2009.

Hey VW Howard Congrats on winning the Grand Prize Computer :!: You are a great man & truly deserve it & thanks a million for your hard work on the Surprise Bus this weekend!!!!

& to all the others that helped on the Surprise Bus while there, like Johnny & Christine, you helped contribute so much to make that woman's husband dream come true. You guys are TRULY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks BoxOnRails for your help with the slip-n-slide  What a task that was getting the water pressure to flow :? I know it took time out of your own dutch oven cook off and I truly thank you for your kind help.

I will see you all at "The Next Main Event" for our family; Buses By The Bridge January 2009 (or) Black Star Canyon (AKA Corner Stone) June 2009,

Sitting in a hotel room in Gila Bend Arizona. We had a great time at Blackstar, OCTO, the grocery store, the roundabout, and the post-campout campout.

Johnny, Kristine, Tubby, Bill, Bob, Keith, Thomas, Carlos, Pete (and family) and I cruised down to San Onofre and camped out last night. I must say the ocean creature-finding adventure in the tide pools at San-O was pretty wicked cool.

Thanks to everyone involved in this weekend. It is one of the best and I look forward to next year.

Fast forwarding to another subject:

I finally got my brother & his family to see what a great time it is to camp with the VW crowd. He and his wife and three kids got to experience their 1st time camping ever as a family & what better way to start it out with than great food, great entertainment, and great company hosted by the great people of VVVVVTTTTTTOOOO and all the other VW people all over the United States. They were so wowed at the turn out and how fun and family oriented it was at the same time that they want to come back for more.

This was Bridgettes parents first campout and they loved it. When I got home her dad asked when the next one was.. ha ha. Thanks again everyone. Oh and bev.. thanks for all the stuff you did with the kids.

I just finished tallying up my stats for the trip:

725 Miles
35.874 Gallons of fuel
20.22 MPG - which is actually very good for my 2.0 Type IV Bay.

Here are a couple pics...

And on the way home:

I just rolled in to Albuquerque. The "deathtrap" made it home safe and sound, although I almost hit a parked car in the center lane of the interstate about 2 miles from home.

Thanks to everyone for a wonderful weekend. I can't wait for the next one!

EZ Gruv Wed Jun 11, 2008 5:35 pm

Glad you made it home safe Mike!

Das Dragon Wed Jun 11, 2008 5:55 pm
