Looks like I need to replace the head gasket... wondering what the estimated cost to replace would be.

Car is an '86 cabriolet and I'm in San diego...

Thanks.

Parts are cheap but while you do that work you may as well do the timing belt, tensioner, and the waterpump. Parts should be around $150-ish and labor for all of that is (minus headwork) around 3-4 hours, give or take. You should look on vwvortex.com and check their regional section for California, bunch of good guys out your way. I know California labor rates are a little higher than Texas but the work is real easy. I edited the parts cost because you can buy a headgasket kit that includes all gaskets touched while doing the work (intake, exhaust, etc).
