How early were clocks available for splits? I know that the radio was always a possible, if not a usual, but when did clocks become available, and what did they look like?

1949/50 would be my guess

I´d say the first ones that mached the speedo came with the first export models. June 1949? Maybe late may.

OK so the first Delux started in LateMay or early June 49, so that sounds logical as a starting point for the matching clock/speedo combo.
That means that a 6-50 clock is rather early in the game.
As a side note does anyone know of earlier non matching clocks that have shown up in VWs? There is an 8 day up forsale for some outrageous price, its a Kohler and mounts on the steering column.
Thanks for the info

Is there a special reason not to believe in this article?

The only word I understood in there was 'fahrt'.

The seller must have taken up crack ; I've been seeing more and more
crack-head type prices asked letely. VW people apparent ly need to get a grip on both reallity and sanity.

It says "Exportmodell" was introduced on "15 Januar 1948" and the 1st was the 20 000th post WWII VW.

Yes, they started in 1948 to add chromed banana bumpers and some other chrome parts to the cars that where sended to countries like the Netherlands, Sweden,Switzerland and others. Just to make them look a little more luxurious. They still had no side trim, black dashboard pods, black three spoke steering wheel, small headliner and so on.
This was the "early export model". It still was a standard with some chrome parts added.
In summer of 1949 the real export model as officially introduced by the VW company and from then on they officially sold the two models side by side. That real export model cars where the first ones that came with a clock from the factory.
Before there might have been added clocks by owners by themself but I do not expect there was one offered that was especially meant for VW use.

If Nordhoff called the 15 Jan 1948 Volkswagen export model a Volkswagen Exportmodell then it is the introduction of the Volkswagen export model. Later changes to the car are irrelevant. They´ve taken place a couple of times afterwards.

However Nordhoff called it, it was all the time the same car, type 11. Just in a export version. In summer 1949 they introduced an all new model, the 11C. Separated from then on from the standard model 11A.
These two differend models side by side just existed up from summer 1949.

Well if the Clock goes with the export model that is stated as with side trim than those parts were availeble early 49..
The first Hebmuller that was shown on the geneva autoshow at end of March and early april 49, and it was a production like model, not a prototype. This car was painted black with coral red side parts....

And was shown with:
A ) grooved split bumpers with black inserts
B) split side trim on the waistline and runningboards
a man who have seen the car there told me for sure.. ..
C) a deluxe dash with white 3 spoke steering wheel and a clock ( model and make is not known ) and glove box doors.

I have a pict of this car but can not show it....the man who send it to me wil not be happy. So I do not show it on the net.

Greetings.

Export models got the clock from Ch.nr. 1-0 103 168 (May -49). They did get the batwing steeringwheel and masonite gloveboxes from this chassisnr. too.

So, is this clock authentic? Considering what it sold for I have to assume it is, but is it a genuine VW clock or not?

Oh my, he did start it there, didn't he? Wow, he's proud of that clock.

This clock is just an old clock that has a look that fits well to the early VW speedo.
Just like this tachometer.

Both look nice beside the speedo but have at least nothing to do with VW.
It was just a design that was around in that time.
