Right now I am using an analog TV with an antennae.
The antennae said "digital ready" when I put it up.
I am considering buying a high def digital TV
Can I just hook it up to the antennae and get over the air digital TV?
How is the picture?
I don't want the exspense of cable right now.

| All antenna are "digital ready". When they transmit the TV signal, the antenna doesn't care what the signal consists of. It is the receiver/TV set, that sorts it out. |

you may need on of those fancy boxes they are coming out with for consumers to switch from analog antenna feed to digital antenna feed. there is a site where you can get 2 $40 coupons towards purchase. the boxes are supposed to run around $50.
or just get cable. the cable and dish industries are going to make a fortune on this change. as well as the government selling the reclaimed bandwidth. but it must have been in the best intrest of the coutnry right? |

I thought it was the other way around.
When everything goes digital the box would take a digital feed and convert it
to analog so my current analog TV can read it.

Here is the website that 90volts was referring to:
https://www.dtv2009.gov/
My Dad was in panic and wanted to get a coupon right away and told me I should too. I had to gently tell him that he has cable (so do I) and he is wasting his time. He sent for the coupons anyways just in case. :? |

Yes you are correct for an analog TV. |

| HD rocks! I have a 32" (biggest that would fit in the $1500 armoire), with satellite hookup. The downside is you need a separate receiver for each set to get HD, hence my second 20" bedroom TV only get a standard signal. |

Here in Detroit, yes. I get an awesome HD picture off a shitty analog antennae. YMMV. I assume you know to check that the TV you buy comes with a built-in tuner; not all of them do. |

I live at the foot of the moutains with most towers 35-50 miles away with some hillage in between and I use a DA-5200
And I get every channel but one, and I don't think I've ever picked it up with any ant. This one is inconspicuos and can be planted indoor or out.
And yes the 500, the golf, and Knight Rider looked awesome yesterday on the 42" Pani plasma.
Edit: It's a RadioShack ant. |
