I have a stock 34 pict3 carb on a 1600 DP all stock except 044 heads. I have the 127 main jet that came with the new Brosal carb I put on last year. It seems to be a little on the small size as it still "pings" up hills even with higher octane gas or with lead additive. I will probably go to a 132.5 or a 135 main jet.
My question is, what size do run on your 34 PICT3? |

| You should check to insure the timing isn't set at more than 32 deg. total advance at 3000 rpm first. I run a 130 on my bus. Good luck. |

| Meister, If your running a 009, definitely time it like tigmud says. Also, don't waste your money on the lead additive, your valves and seats in the 044's are unleaded ready. I hate running 34-3 carbs coupled with 009's. Flat spot heaven. You can do some things to make it better though. I'd go up to a 130 main, take off the air filter and make sure the brass dump tube is squirting at the opening edge of the throttle plate as you work the throttle. You can play around with idle jets too. I was told that most of your around town driving is on the idle jet anyway. Steve from airccoled.net has lot's of articles that will shed some light. If your in a bus, try using Bosch W7AC plugs instead of the W8AC. They are a slightly colder running plug, good for heavy buses. I like them. Don't go drilling the carb, get jets in the proper size so you can swap em' out. Good luck... |

| Sorry dudes, I should have stated I have the vacuum advance distributor. Yeah, timing is on too. I will try what you suggested Glandnut, thanks. |
