I have a stock 92 Westy with K&N,Pertronix and a bus header and thought I had the fuel injection set just right by the dark rich exhaust color.....I pulled the header to paint it and find that only #3&4 are dark and sooty and #1&2 are rusty with no color coming out of the heater boxes.....any ideas what could be happening here....I just got a new set of injector seals and now it looks like I might want to rebuild some injectors

thanx

My question would be: how do the plugs look? If they are fine then I don't personally see any problem. If you think there may be a problem with the injectors(although for just one side to have problems seems unlikely for the injectors themselves to be at fault) then why not switch them with the #1&2? After a week or so pull the header again and inspect for changes. Another thought might be that #3&4 are closer in line to the fuel pressure regulator and mabey recieve a little more fuel and run a little more rich but that is a long shot. I'm certainly no mechanic and I have the same vehicle and gave up on the L-Jetronic and got a Progressive instead so I probably shouldn't be giving advice, but thats my $.02 Good Luck. Dave

the plugs were leaned out so I rebuilt the injectors and changed the seals.....the small seal on the 1&2 side were pretty bad shape and I now think that was the problem....it was running ok before but with rebuilt injectors is like a different bus.....next time I'll probably go ahead and spend the bucks for new injectors because it sure made a difference

Those small seals sure make a difference. I got the van cheap because it was rough running. I spent about $12 on seals and it ran great for another year. Its hard for me to believe that those seals are all that keeps air and dirt out of the combustion chamber, they dont seem like much. Dave
