I have a 69 westy with a dp 1600 and apetronix ignition. I have a sticky solenoid.
Someone mentioned a Ford solenoid would work.

Is this true? If it is with one?

The Ford solenoid is used to bypass old wiring on 6volt VWs, in order to get enough current to the starter to turn it over fast enough. Just replace the starter and solenoid on your 12volt bus with standard new parts. It's only like 50 bucks, and it will last years.

No problem. I just got a 69 westy hardtop myself, just took my first camping trip last week. It's WET here in NW Oregon! Good luck with everything. If you don't have it already, get the John Muir Idiot Manual, saved my ass many times. The official service manual is necessary too.
Happy trails!
