I just purchased a set of adjusters from bus-boys to install in my 71 bus. I feel confidents about the welding part. But i feel very confused about the whole sleeve thing. The instructions for removing the sleeves with braker bars and 2x2x6 and a special tool, and that whole thing is really confusing.

Does anyone out there who has done this before know a simple way of doing this. Following their (bus-boys') instructions is like reading a VCR's intructions for recording

If I do this right, then I will do the same to my 67 sliding door panel.

I appreciate the help.

I also bought the doit yourself ajusters. I n the middle of the beam is a sleeve that holds the torsion leaves in a spacific setting (kinda looks like a socket opened up)you can see it in the beam once you clean the greese out. They want you to break the teeth off the sleeve so the leaves can move up and down in the beam.My plan was to put the torsion leaves back in the beam and use a couple of old torsion arms and a 5ft. cheater pipe. One guy to stand on the beam, another on one side w/cheater and me on the other cheater. Then both guys w/cheaters REEF till the teeth break. The ajuster kit was $125? I decided to pass on the hassle and sent the kit back and bought the beam built.I would have spent that much on Beer and Barbecue for me and the boys, and save my knuckles for R&R-ing the new beam.Check it out.

Thanks DKAUF.

I think I'll do the same. My problem is that I don't have anyone to help me with breking the teeth of the sleeves.

I'll send my beam back to bus-boys and have them do it.

you guys are making this sound much harder than it accually is! all you need to do is get yourself a length of pipe or solid bar
that will fit into the end of the stripped beam without interfering with the bushings/bearings. at the center of the beam you will notice some dimples (3 per tube plus the grub screw hole). heat the dimples with a torch 'till they are glowing, then use your length of pipe and a large sledge hammer or shop press to drive the center aside, this will push the dimpled out making the tube round again, then flip the beam over and inset your pipe into th opposite side and repeat back and forth until it moves fairly easy. you can also lengthen the slot when the center is to either side...save yourself some money and order avis adjusters from "the latest rage" they are $12.00 each and work just as good!(you have to grind a bit to fit them to the bus)

good luck!

Thanks Camero,

But where can I order those avis adjusters?

Thanks for the info. I wished I would have known this. I just shipped my beam to bus-boys to have them install the adjusters.

I have another bus (67 panel) and I want to give those avis adjusters a chance.

thanks
