My daily driver, a 96 pontiac grand prix, engine just went out and so i need a new car and saw a 95 jetta in the newspaper at a Used car lot. I am going to check out the car sometime tomorrow. Are there certain things i should look for when i look over the car? And would the car be worth buying, i heard they have electrical problems but also read a lot of great reviews about the car at the same time? Thanks for the help. The newspaper ad only says 1995 VW Jetta so i don't know if it is a certain upgraded model of a jetta like the GLS(if thats even right) so all the help is appreciated. This would be my first watercooled vw, i own a (in the process of becoming) a baja bug right now and don't want to blow the bank on a brand new car so i can upgrade the suspension on my bug, this Jetta is $2000.00. I was hoping i might be able to talk the guy down in price a little depending on the condition of the car. thanks everybody.

The only electrical issues that I can really think of would be if the Jetta has power windows, heard many problems with the factory power window motors failing. Other than that, the car can be quite reliable.

My 1996 Jetta GL 2.0L has now over 183k and runs like a top. I had replaced the timing belt, waterpump, thermostat, cracked coil, and faulty fuel pump recently, other than that it still passes smog emissions.

You'll get a better response from the VW Vortex which is dominated by watercooled VW enthusiasts.
