1. the carb ?

Carb Solex 26 VFIS part nr 1 29 021 B (beware of the late industrial carbs)
Distributor Bosch VE4BRS383 part nr 9 19 021 (without O-ring)

Good:

Bad: (actually very bad as this is 26 VFIS-1, late industrial 26 VFIS has similar smooth float chamber)

Worst: 28 VFIS (not VW)

If you want to get real picky, the dists are date coded and you should find one dated 1-3 months before year of your car....

And don't forget the cloth wire condenser! 8)

Sometimes... Btw in the "before" picture of that BRS383 there is a good looking original. Wonder why it was changed as they hardly ever are broken.

shouldn't it have "Wire" clips to hold the cap on.

Heikki,
Nice one! Is that for sale? :D Please PM me.

No worries...I still have the original condenser for my 383 dizzy!

I'm not familiar w/the "wire" clips. I know my dizzy's date code is 12F (Dec. '50), which is cool w/my Feb. '51 11C. :D

I searched & found this from HeSa:

Don't know if "wire" clips should be on '51 distributors. Anyone??? Heikki???

ALOHA!

Here's a July 1950 date coded 383 I have.

The 383's with the o-ring are for 53-55 Porsche 356.

Not original Bosch but still large diameter KEM.

Not easy to find.

The German PR states that wire and flat clips were used parallel from 17 Sept 1952 ch nr 391 801 untill ch nr 392 163. So... up to ch 391 800 wire, 391 801 - 392 163 both, 392 164 and up flat clips.

Here´s a bit better picture of the og condenser.

If the 383's with O-ring are 53 - 55 porsche 356
Why do I have here a 5H dated 383 with O-ring, is it possible That VW asked the dealers to prepare the distributators for a O-ring because of oil leaks ??
Sorry for my poor englisch!!

Glenn wrote: The 383's with the o-ring are for 53-55 Porsche 356.

According to the German PR the O-ring is correct for VW VE4BRS383 from 13 Nov 1952.

And yes Guido, I´ve been told by German oldtimers it was a common practise to manufacture the groove to the older distributors.

Glenn Wed Feb 27, 2008 3:38 pm

5H is May 1952, that's close enough to 1953 to explain why it has the o-ring.

VW and Bosch put updated products into production when they were available, not just when the model year changed.

Hello my friends.

sorry to make the ressurection for this post, I wanted to see the pictures and is not possible :( anyone can upload them please, or give me the link so I can see the differences.

Mostly I wanted to understand the differences between 26vfis carb for split and 26Vfis from Industrial engines, I have seen some but they seem very similiar to split ones or maybe they are not even industrial :? can anyone help to understand this differences?

kind regards.
Frank
