I know Mk1 GTI's are suppose to have a JH code engine, but what does
that mean? Am I suppose to be able to see JH and then a number listed
somewhere, like on my engine like on my air cooled motor? (ex. AH code
engine) Where is this number suppose to be? |

The engine serial number is on the side of the block facing the radiator, down between the #2 and #3 cylinders; look for a flat(machined) area with stamped letters and numbers on it....you might need to clean the area with degreaser and a wire brush to see it, but it's there.
The first two or three digits of a watercooled VW engine number are the engine code - in your case, JH. The remaining six or seven digits are the actual production number of the engine. |
