As always, Terryville was a great show, one of my favorites each year. Turnout of splits was great, I would bet that only 2 or three of those cars were part of the last attempt at a record. Just goes to show how many there are here on the east coast. Thanks to everyone that put forth the effort to get cars there. It's difficult to find one or two at a show anymore, and never do you get to see patina cars, barn dust still intact and muti layered paint jobs, got to see them before the restorations, really cool. May not have set any records for largest number of cars there but we were close we may have set a record for the fewest green splits (1) and the most maroon splits (4). Got to put some faces to some Samba names, met some new folks, chatted with old friends. Great weekend. Guy

Ok, some Qs over at the shows site about what splits were there. Help me out folks. By year:

1. 1946 - Garth Collins , Black (keyed" split, some controversy about what year that really is??)
2. 1947 - Jim Phillips, Gray
3. 1947 - Guy McDorr, Blue
4. 1948 - Mark Longwood (?) Blue
5. 1948 - Chuck Pisconski, White
6. 1949 - Dan Arena, Red/Ivory (Heb)
7. 1950 - Chuck Pisconski, green
8. 1950 - Clay Smith, Bordeaux Red
9. 1950 - John Henry, Bordeaux Red (Sunroof)
10. 1951 - Guy McDorr, Bordeaux Red
11. 1951 - ??, Blue (talked to him, just purchased out of VA last week)
12. 1951 - Stan Conord, Grey (standard)
13. 1952 - ??, White (The zwitter with bullet holes)
14. 1953 - ??
15.
16.
17.
18.

I wished I had taken better pics. Clay's wife Mary I think came by and took pics of all of them separately.

Anyone got more details??? I probably missed some obvious ones, sorry...

I also had a 50 deluxe, Bordeaux Red. Painted on outside, needs interior and motor in progress. Whitewalls and 24,000 original miles. Also I had a 50 Standard shell, only a couple of numbers away from Clay and Marys 50 Standard. Chuck P

Also a 51 hot rod split on IRS pan with duel port owned by long time vintage enthusiast Tom Matulis. And the Zwitter with the bullet holes owned by Ray Milette of Connecticut. Jim Phillipps had a Gray 47 there. Not sure if that was mentioned. Chuck P

We just put up pictures of all the cars that were there when Mary had a chance to get out and take pictures. We did miss a few cars.

Hi folks, Mark Lockwood here with the blue 48 that Mary just posted shots of. Big thanks to Chuck and his team for another great show and special gathering. Nice meeting quite a few of you and as Alex noted, getting so many early cars together for reference was great. If I had more room on my trailer I would have brought an early 52 Standard to help crack that record....next time :D

Oh and for the record our red bug should be grey. It was repainted back in the 60s at least. It will once again become grey when we redo it.

I will get buried once again next month unless we can find a 20foot storage container... (hint hint we are looking for one).

So is this a real split? Whats the story on this car? Are you counting this car John?

Don't know the story, and yes I was counting it. What is "'43" about it? '43 body on a '55 chassis? (doubt it). Might be a '55 body with a split window section graftedin, can't really count it then...

Anyone know details?

Also, what about Garth Collin's '46? I seem to recall that very little of it was '46, but forgot the details. Not bashing, just curious.

This thread makes me want to buy another split

vwsplitman Wed Aug 13, 2008 5:40 pm

Could of , should of , would of. I made a list before the show on Sunday and there could have been 35 split windows at the show. I guess we have to wait another 8 years to give it another try. Chuck P

Yeah, but it will take you one year to drive it all the way out here....

It is a 55 Oval with a Grafted Split window section in it. The guy whom owns it does reinactments. The work was done VERY well and the body's metal is excellent.

The owner is also a very nice guy. If you have seen the metal upfront, the body looks like it just rolled out of Wolfsburg.

That's assuming a good tail wind and 30 psi in the tires....

But it then can't really be counted as a split IMO....

I did like the old radio playing the 40s music.

Terryville was great. I never got to see the swap meet as I never left all the Splits. It was nice talking to old friends and as Guy says putting a face to an email address.
You did it again Chuck! Lots of hard work and lots of help from your Team.
A Big "Thank You" to eveyone who helps to make this meet happen every Year. One of my favorites. :D

Hey Chuck, Really nice 48' "Fresh Barn Find" of yours!
Shed some light about that car for us will you?
