Well, I was sick today so I figured out how to resize my pics. Here is proof that I made some progress.

New German bowden tube that accompanied the clutch cable renew. Notice the rubber tip on the end of the tube that keeps the crap out.

Here are the shots of the gas pedal cleaned and reinstalled with the rubber boot in place to cut down on the drafts.

New Alpine CD player

New Bosch Decel Valve

And the fifth Koni

A lot of work, but it's lot of fun to keep this thing going. Right now it's my daily driver.

While she is completely stripped and in the paint shop (pictures to come) took the very mismatched locks to the locksmith.

She now will have locks that all work on the original key.

most of my doors are on the same key, only the passenger door is on a different key, i once snapped a key in a frozen lock and was stuck outside the car until i smashed a window :( :x

i keep one lock on a different key now so it won't happen again.

it looks like there is no bow in your bowden tube.

WAS THAT bowden tube way shorter than the one that came off? it should have a nice curve in it. mine curves down towards the ground.

well, both of you have a good point. When I bought my bus, it was the first vw that I had ever owned and had only helped a friend with his bus a little. 6 years years had past between wrenching on a vw and purchasing the one you see here. Like a complete beginner, I only cruised the samba ads and ebay. I should have looked locally and found something in better shape for less money. But I decided that this $600 bus in California was the one for me so I drove all the way from Oklahoma to California to buy a bus that I had seen 3 pictures of. It had no engine (which is what I wanted because I wanted to build my own) It also had damage from previous owners. Shocker right? At some point, some one high centered this bus. the passenger side frame rail is a bit tweaked and the center heater tube was trashed. The metal clutch cable housing tube that is tack welded to the rear torsion housing was pinched. It wasn't pinched enough that the cable wouldn't move, so I didn't worry about it. Fast forward from 2003 to 2005 when I finally got my bus moving. a couple months into driving my bus the clutch cable snapped. Ok, no biggie right. Bought a replacement and went to remove the old cable. The threaded portion on the rear where the wing nut attaches would not pass the pinched portion of the metal tube. So I fought it and fought it and tweaked it until the tube popped off in my hand. OH SHIT! I thought.

What I ended up doing was cutting the metal tube with a tube cutter where is was not pinched and "spliced" in a piece of plastic plumbing that I found at Home Depot that is the exact diameter of the metal housing. I guess I didn't get it long enough, but it's been working with out issue since. There is about 30K miles on that set up.

How important is the bend? I don't get clutch chatter. Could an unbent bowden tube cause clutch cables to let go at the crimped ends?

I agree that there should be a bend but what is the purpose of the bend?

Haven't posted in a while but yesterday I got together with a few local VW people and they helped me with my timimg issues. Got it running nice and cool and I'm going for a highway test drive tonight. Got all my issues squared away just in time to take it off the road for the winter

took it camping in a fall storm, lots of wind, rain and leaves, good times for sure! propane heat to dry out the rain soaking hiking gear is a must!

Finally, the 034 SVDA distributor. Oil pressure sender relocation kit, and two pole oil pressure sender.

Driving is like night against day with the 034. It's great to step on the gas and have instant increase in rpm. We only had about a half tank on it, but it looks like mpg went up 1.5-2.

Good Day

Any more info on this? Like where it came from.

I searched a while back and got this:

I figured they didn't exist.

I'm happy with it so far. This dampener can be adjusted to be firmer or softer than the stock dampener.

Essentially it is a dampener for a Porsche 356.

Here is the info on where I got it

I ordered it via the web

smashing a window isn't very clever, cutting the rubber is the tidy way if you're not familiar with the standard methods off getting into a locked bus without a key.

I took out my interior panels and put in some reflectix for the upcoming winter. We'll see today how the ride changes!
