I have a stock 1979 wesfalia and i would like to replace the restrictive stock exhaust with something different but it seems that no one makes anything for the 79. I,ve seen ones for every other yr. Any 79 owners run into this or have suggestions?
you may be stuck with the portion that bolts onto heat exchangers, but i don't think that's the major source of your restriction anyway. from there, a good local exh shop can bend you up a pipe with freer flowing cat and muffler. gas flow doesn't have any particular language, and the amurrikin hot rod boys are now all middle aged boomers with plenty of $ to spend on toys, so there's some decent stuff out there. |

Last weekend:
1. Decided to keep my '71 and sell the newly acquired '67 split. I like having a camper and the split is a deluxe. Plus, my family and I looooove our '71 and are starting to acquire camping memories. Stupid sentimental attachments! :D
2. Thoroughly cleaned the entire thing -including the engine- and started getting it ready for camping season. (Homemade cabinets re-installed, roof rack and awning put on, et cetera.)
3. Painted the dirty, nasty tan front door interior panels with black vinyl paint so they match the rest of the panels. Simple job that made the inside look a bit nicer.
4. Started drying, gluing, and fixing up the front kick panels.
5. Adjusted the timing and did a basic tune-up.
Busy weekend! Next on the list is adjusting the rear brakes and reattaching the emergency brake clip. |

Just changed the gear oil.
It's a smelly job, and this cold weather didn't help. |

| Got all the lights working, got the tags and took the old bus for a quick drive around the neighborhood. It was the first time I'd driven it. No big surprises. The transmission and clutch seem to be OK. I heard a grinding coming from the rear brakes so I suspect the linings wore through and are scoring the drums so I may need new ones. Temp. gauge, speedo, fuel gauge all work. The timing is off, it was crapping out just above idle, I moved the distributor and that was fixed but I need to do a full tune-up. So there are still some things to do but in a week or two it should be a driver. :D :bay_red: |

| I bought a Compu-Fire electronic ignition. Got it local from a VW shop so if it doesn't work I can return it without having to mail it. But please, please don't tell anyone I bought it. I don't want to get the points vs electronic ignition debate started again. :agrue: :bay_red: |

Put in fuel filler elbow, fuel filler neck, firewall, engine to body seal, fuel filter, and a bunch of fuel lines.
Before this weekend, I couldn't work under my bus without jackstands or a lift because I got claustrophobic with the engine and transmission an inch from my face. |
