I plan on doing the bamboo rods thing too, do you have a close up pic of what you used to attach them to the metal?
Where did you get your rods? I was gonna grab mine from Home Depot but I haven't gone to check them out yet.
I really like what you have going on there!

I picked up the rods at Lowes in the garden dept, .79 cents apiece. I'll take some pics tomorrow of how I fastened them. I used some cable clamps that go on walls, also from Lowes.

Swapped out speedometers to another one. Hopefully this one won't be off by 10+ mph. Also replaced the aftermarket turn signal switch I payed a fortune for with a good used one and now all my blinkers work again. Have to figure out why the running lights up front aren't coming on though. Flasher is kind of sketchy as well. Think they're related? Front ones blink with the turn signals and with the flashers but don't come on with the lights. Go figure. Oh, and fog lights installed (not wired though)!

Installed my new engine seal.

What size tires are you running? Sometimes changing from stock to a larger or smaller diameter will throw off the reading indicated on your speedo. Use a GPS to check actual speed. Very important when traveling through small speed trap towns ,just itching to find a reason to stop that Hippy Bus.

Cable clamps! I would have wandered around HD looking for something in my mind that I think would fit the picture haha. Thanks for that! I did a google search and pulled up a pic.

Initail goal: Parking brake adjustment:
Using the star screws in the rear brake housing, I expanded the pads out. It made for a really nice change in pedal travel, and had another effect as well. Previously when I would apply the brakes the front end would dip. After adjusting the rears, the front end dip is now subtle and smoother. 8)

I got fed up with rusty tail pipes, so purchased a nice shiny stainless steel tail pipe for the Type 4 exhaust on my bay from Cool Air and fitted it today, its made by CSP Products of West Germany, I have to say it is a very nicely engineered part, as you would expect from the Germans:

All ready to head to a car show yesterday so hopped in, released the P brake and attempted to drive off. But the left rear was locked up tight. Remembered that last weekend it got real wet in the rain just before parking it. Also remembered that a shoe can rust to the drum depending on the type of lining. Mine are relatively new and must be of the metalic lining properties. This can be a hassle to free up. A friend had hers towed (carried) to a shop and then they charged seems like $100 in labor. Anyway being in a hurry, not wanting to get dirty or dragging out the tools I reached in the backing plate inspection hole with some old bolt to contact the steel of the shoe and gave it one moderate whack with a hammer. It broke loose and I drove away within 5 minutes without needing to even wash my hands. Other methods that people have used (me also) can get real involved.

I finally replaced the rubber bushing in the rear torsion tubes. Quite the job!

185R14 is what I'm running. I've checked the speed with those road side meters and GPS.

Day 1 of My 71 bus project...
Per I don't have a garage and currently trying to negotiate my sister in law one  ... I started the process with my bare hands with the help of a sanding block of course... When i think of all those beautiful tools (compressor, DA sander, grinder etc etc) I just bought ... well I feel a bit dizzy... :( ...
Anyway... i started with the roof which is in pretty bad shape : 3 hours later I'm exhausted but happy... I can see bare metal all over the place... But damn I didn't realize I had a muscle linking my biceps to my fingertips  ... I barely can move my arms and shoulders .... No need to say taht sanding a bus with your hands you don't need to go to the gym the same day...
I also could loose the chrome (well they've certainly have been chromed in their past ;) ) body trim without breaking or bending one...

No need to take a slipping pill tonight ... :) ... Only typing this post is a torture for my fingers

Cheers

Sweet, I went to HD yesterday and I grabbed some cable clamps and some bamboo. I just need a saw to complete and I'll definitely post pics.

A little tip on cutting the bamboo, wrap where you are going to cut with some tape (masking tape or duct tape) for a clean cut with no splintering.

Fog lights! I ran the wires up into the dash and hooked it up to the defroster switch, because I'm pretty sure it doesn't work. I also like having the switch light up when the lights are on. 8)

I've been looking for a set of those. Found 'em, but I don't wanna' pay $100 plus for lights :P.

Your lights look great!

I used an extra defogger switch for my lights and mounted it in the hole next to my headlight switch. I took the defogger screen printing off of it, and am now looking for a small light symbol decal for it. Peace!
