| I have done alot lately. My girl has been out of town the last two weeks so I have done the following. Replaced the carb, distributor, coil, plugs, changed the oil, fuel lines, fuel filter, antenna, sliding door seal, installed license plate holder and washed her. I have learned alot in the past two weeks and have asked many questions here. Next on my list is checking out the front end, sliding door mechanism and maybe a carpet kit. |

Yeah you don't need it everywhere...just in spots where you know it will sag or needs a little help staying in place.
As for what I"ve been doing on the Bus lately...I just finished sewing all my curtains (finally!) so now I gotta get a hold of a saw so I can tackle the bamboo. Oh and I'm still(!!!!!) working on that damn clogged intake manifold :x |

| I haven't glued the seals to the door yet...I like to let it sit closed and be forced/pressed into position and after about a week or so I'll see if it sets pretty much in place and only use glue where seal doesn't fit in channel. 3m or any weatherstrip type glue. Some will release better than others if you want to be able to remove. Today I am going to REPLACE the REAR most ENGINE/fan hub SEAL... |

Finally got engine together with transmission and back in again, yesterday finished hooking everything back up, checked for gas leaks, fixed one tiny one, crossed my fingers and fired him up. Started fine, ran lumpy and choked out after a few minutes.
The intake heat risers were nice and stovetop hot. I called it a night. Now I have to undo the carb tuning that let it run before, clogged and real rich. I was glad it didnt run right after the work; I figured there would be plenty to undo now that it has a thermostat, clear heat riser, etc... |

^^^ really dig those GB's, hotness.
Got the tie rods on, and the rest of the front end buttoned up. Still needs an alignment. Next was installation of new rear drums, and had to uh, modify the right side backing plate to fit the drum- guess I'm adding a new one to the never ending parts wish list.
I finally bled the brakes using a garden sprayer that was still new unused in the crawl space. It worked almost too easily, screw using the mity-vac from now on. |

| Fettled tonight, set dwell, timing was on the mark, set the idle and mixture, undid one or two really brickheaded things, ran like a champ, drove around the neighborhood and no more evidence of the face-slamming off-idle hesitation. Keep at the heat risers, Skid, it is worth all the work! Now I gotta figure out why the oil temp gauge slowly pegged at 300+ degrees, sure as hell not any relation to actual conditions, the dipstick was nice and warm, nothing like what the gauge would have me think... |

| Drove down to Wolfsburg West to pick up a new flasher relay for my bus. Pretty cool to see a bunch of old VW's parked outside of one place. Anyways, replaced it tonight and finally my flashers/turn signals work correctly! Well almost, the left one blinks (almost too) fast while the right ones blink at the perfect rate. I guess I'll have to figure that out one sometime. :? |

Usually when one side flashes too quickly, it's because there isn't enough current draw through that circuit so it trips the relay more frequently. In other words, you have a bulb out on that side :P. Peace! |

| Went through the brake system on the '71. The front discs were fine, the master cylinder and booster seem OK. The rear brakes had some problems. I was hearing a noise from the rear brakes and thought the drums were being scored. The right side had a leaky wheel cylinder and the shoes were saturated with brake fluid so they were shot. The left side had some parts missing. The bar that spreads the shoes was missing, that was the noise I heard, the e-brake cable was not connected and was rubbing on the drum. Also the springs and pins that hold the shoes on were missing. The drums were fine. Put in new shoes, wheel cylinders, all new springs and hardware. Brakes work good now, the e-brake works good. I spent about $100.00 but now I know the brakes are right. Checked out the turn signals. The housing is broken and the mechanism has seen better days so it looks like a matter of tracking down those parts........doesn't sound like fun. :D :bay_red: |
