Whether it's simple or difficult is not the concern. The concern is robbing oil from the lube gallery. It's just stealing lubrication oil to dump it into the sump.
If it was a true bypass filter it would only get flow on a cold startup when the system pressure is relieving. And that would be a small amount for a very short time. You would/do not want it to bleed off any oil on a warmed up or hot system. Unhook the line from the stand bolt and run it into the filler breather with the cap off so you can actually see what it is doing.
On a hot engine there is no excess lube oil to throw away. If there was then a hot engine wouldn't have lower pressure. I'm not sure where the 10 PSI per 1,000 RPM figure always comes from. Although it's not a catastrophic figure it's way lower than what I'd want my engines to run at. Best to get a meat thermometer to accurately know the engine temp and test the pressure at the temp specified per the manual. Notice that the 28 psi @ 2,500 rpm is the minimum allowed for a worn engine. 42 PSI is the spec for new parts.
Full flow doesn't rob. If the Frantz can take the pressure and flow rate that's the place for it. If it can't take the full amount of flow then it could be plumbed in parallel to the full flow line.

I won't argue with you about it. These things have been in fleet service on diesels and work trucks since the 1950's. If you fear them, by all means - avoid them to your heart's content. IMHO - ANY additional filtration is a GOOD thing on my engine. When my oil pressure becomes a concern, then perhaps I will reevaluate it's use on my vehicle. Until then - cleaner oil! Yeah!

You might want to investigate the tech. involved before espousing opinions though...

I have no problem about the filter itself. And I'm always suggesting that people run a filter on their T-1's but in a fulflow line. And I'm not against bypass filters either. But the way you installed and use is sure nothing I want to use on mine or suggest that others do.

What tech?

So the tech link you gave before was to an application where there was already a proper filter in place. And now I see how you've teed off the OP sender and managed to avoid tapping anything. The filter does have a substantial restriction inside, so the filter itself would be inappropriate for full flow use. The question here is if the restriction is sufficient to maintain adequate pressure AND flow to your main bearings. I'm not so sure.

OK I'll bite. I really do not understand how letting oil pass through this filter and back into the sump helps? Oil should travel past the oil pressure switch hole, through the cooler, and to all the bearings. By allowing an outlet there for a pressure bleed, how does that help anything? I'm in the boat you're going to be starving bearings of oil, especially at low RPM's where your pressure is already low.

Nice find!

I just finished my weekly brake adjustment and overall checkup. Re-wired the volt-meter directly to the 6 gauge acc. supply instead of to the dash switches +12v. No more weird voltage drops when using my turn signals. Discovered that my new VDO oil pressure gauge is connected to the wrong double sender. 80psi gauge and 150psi sender. I'll pick the right one up tomorrow...

Placed a monumental order with the Bus Depot. Ordered(among other things) a pair of rear drums and a pair of new thermostats(type 1). Also got myself a new engine-door seal and a slew of brake parts(hoses, cylinders and hardware).

Stuartzickefoose Wed Feb 15, 2012 12:44 am

finished the dash on buster, pics tomorrow.

got tach installed in dash pods in clock circle
got all the dash lights working and upgradded to 2.3 watt, so EVERYTHING is visible, include the oil light in broad daylight, now it wont go un noticed...
wired up the old EGR light for a Fog light indicator...still working on that one...its funky.
got gas gauge working properly after a new sending unit (old one still good) new vibrater, and a used gauge (managed to break the needle off the old one... ](*,)

with the high beams, and the foglights on, it lights up ALOT more than i expected....foglights fill in alot of the gaps headlights (sealed beams still) leave behind.

69 bay long stem mirror in my 71 bus. Even Data can't believe how much further I can see out my back window.

Nice toes.

Aren't they supposed to go in descending length order? Or is this one of those rare toe variants that everyone is looking for.
