I'm using Meguiar's cleaner wax to take off the oxidation and get that shine back. Amazing and no buffer, all by hand. So far my wire wheel on my drill is knocking off any rust. So I am just spot painting those spots. The biggest rust area is under the spare tire on the front. I decided to por 15 it and paint over. I called the company and they said just spray before it totally cures. We will see. Someone on the forum said to just have the balls and give it a try, so it's balls to the walls!

Spray paint sticks to the por 15 great as long as you apply it before the por 15 is hard. I would recomend going with a highbuild primer first so that you can sand it smooth before final paint. POR 15 does flatten nicely but not perfectly.

I am doing pretty much a full interior re-build of my '75 Riviera. I POR'd my floor last weekend. I did not plan on painting over it - but I am going to install Fatmat over it. Can I assume there is no problem with the Fatmat adhering to the POR?

I think you will be fine with the adhesive backing sticking to it. Also, if you decide to pait it after it is dry POR 15 does sell a primer just for that.

Right... time to move.

What did I do?

Well... I showed it to my in-laws. They saw a picture and didn't know if it was mine or not. Guess that's a positive sign of progress. They liked the floor. I do too.

Can't do much because of the weather. I was surprised to see the river was higher than when it was flooding. It was maybe less than a meter away from the ...bridge bit of the railway bridge over the border today. Thought the levy would have broken and Tocumwal would have been under water. Guess not.

Now we're looking at tents. How is that related? Um... well, camping. Not registered yet but it seems as though the most hated of vehicles is winning some reserved support because of the progress. I'm hoping to spot a tent that can be attached sort of to the side or something.

Drove her around the block twice, scrubbed her down, then put her safely back in the garage. 8)

Found a roof rack for it!

It came off a Toyota car so the mounting brackets are to short. I need to figure out a way to make some of those ad on gutter pieces that Thule sells. Yah I'm cheap. LOL I figure we can make something like that and then use the hardware that came with the rack. It's a Yakima rack.

Here's a pic of my test fit!

I'm still not sure where I want it to sit. I'm going to do some searches for roof racks on Westy's here on the forum and get an idea of what would look best.

I just drove it another 500 miles, soon to be another 250, then another 500 by Monday. I also installed a new (used) engine the day before I left, so I guess this is a good test run. I now have an oil cooler and gauges, though, so that should count for something.

saw it once today...:( wish i could drive it more often!

Stared at her ass while drinking a beer and contemplated shoving a subaru in there.

As far as I'm concerned, your engine's bullet proofed with those gauges and oil cooler

I like to think of it as a thick Kevlar wrap around the engine that protects valves stems and main bearings from destruction.

I drove past the repair shop and gazed upon my bus for a few minutes. I am no mechanic, and sometimes things require a real mechanic. Still, I feel like some sort of Quitter, handing it over to someone else.

Like what? I bet you and a Bentley and TheSamba are better than any mechanic out there...

My 4 month old alternator took a crap. The engine was also running hot and had a slight "whirr" coming from the fan. So I pulled the engine and trans as a unit. I found a Post It note stuck to the vanes of the fan ( 1600 upright ). It must have gotten sucked into the air scoops and found it's way down and front. Replaced the alternator. Decided to split the trans from the engine and found the input shaft seal leaking and replaced it. Installed the motor and found a bad CV boot while underneath. Bought a new one and it should be replaced today if it stops raining. :x I hope to have it on the road this evening. Tomorrow after work is Sebring! :D

Thanks for the support, but it is a front main seal leak and a mystery fuel leak somewhere on the gas tank. The panel to access the fuel tank seems to require the removal of the motor to gain access to those 2 little screws on the back side.
These are a bit more than a guy with a metric socket set, and the mechanical abitities of a drunken Monkey can handle!!
I did lots of the easy stuff like the fuel lines and vacuum lines, and a few "Take-off/put-on" type repairs, but this is beyond my knowledge, and time availability.
