| Thank You. The seat covers are TMI that I purchased from Wolfsberg West. I used thier fiber pads on the bottoms. The foam that the factory used on the bottoms had turned into some type of nuclear goo that is really really nasty. Best to take them apart in the yard, right next to the trashcan. You do not want that stuff anywhere near your workspace. You need to get hog ring pliers and hog rings also from WW. They are mostly used on the cover you put over the springs before you put the fiber pads on. I used a piece of nylon sun shade material for the cover but you can use almost any type of tough material. The sunscreen worked well for me because the fiber mats sit real well on them with no slippage. So, when I put the covers over just the fiber mat they were pretty sloppy. So I glued some 1/2 inch foam rubber to the fiber pads with 3M spray adhesive. And then the covers fit nice and snug. No plastic bag on the bottoms. On my seat backs the foam was in nice shape so I just added another 1/2 inch of my new foam and called it good. On the drivers side seat back, cover the foam with a plastic bag to make it easier to slide the cover on. A kitchen trash bag works perfect. Its important to fix any broken springs first. I soldered some sleeves over my broken ones. I had five broken springs on the drivers bottom. Time will tell, but I'm keeping my eyes open for a nice drivers seat. You don't need much in the way of tools or supplies. Scissors, wire cutters, pliers. Spray adhesive and bailing wire. The drivers seat took a day to do but it was the first time. The passenger side bottom took about two hours. It helps to do all of this on a hot day and let the covers sit in the sun to soften them up a bit. I did not need to do the passenger seat back at this time. Now that I know what it takes I may put some Sew Fine covers on at some point down the line because they look so sexy. |

I do have a question. The rings around the headlights, were these painted or what? I am a detail freak and something needs done to these, are they stainless, can I buff them to a shine?
Charlie
Factory they were left bare but you could paint them grey to prevent rusting. Seeing as the are covered by the trim rings, you really don't have to do anything with them.
To clarify - they are not bare metal, they were plated.
So not painted but still protected from the elements somewhat. |

Parked it again. I had to put it back in service while I fixed a few things on the bug. Alas, those things are fixed, and the Bus is parked.
On the flip side, that Bug is really peppy! |

New front shocks today. Pulled the PO's KYB's from the front. Rears tomorrow.
Also replaced the shift rod bushings and coupler bushings. Sadly, the original shift coupler cage was bent into a parallelogram so I assume that the PO pulled the engine and did not support the trans. I hope that's all that got bent. Put in a replacement SAW cage (with stock bushings) that I had laying around.
And...lost the grub screw form the rear. Unbelievable. Tomorrow, I guess I'll be shopping for a grub screw. What a pain. |

I saw it again for the first time in 10 days! ( I went on a cruise to Alaska). Then I put the stickers I got on my travels on the it! :D
In the next photo the oldies 102 is an old sticker. The other 3 are the new ones. I was actually trying to find more stickers like the British Colombia one but had no luck in Alaska. Those things are getting hard to find!
Tomorrow I get to go for my first Starbucks run in it!! First drive in 10 days. Can't wait. :D |

When did the system change? The way it was, the stickers represented where the car had been. Had nothing to do with where people had been. And all the gas stations all over the country had state and parks stickers. The bummer was if you drove through a state and forgot to get a sticker. But any sticker on the window or bumper identified where the vehicle had actually been to. Obviously no one had Antartica stickers on their cars.
And if you went somewhere without the vehicle you sure didn't put those stickers on the vehicle. It was just an unspoken code of honesty
So if you do a Starbucks run then be sure and throw a Starbucks sticker on it. :P  |

The times have changed, it's 2012 and I just like putting different stickers on my bus! I think all kinds of codes have been broken since back in the day. Lol
If Starbucks offered a sticker I would put it on my bus. I do have an In n Out sticker though! Lol |

Rear shocks are on. Grub screw replaced and safety wired. Not liking the way it seated but it shifts OK and feels tights. If it comes loose the wire will hold it. Advanced another degree on the timing with the 019.
Scheduled inspection, alignment and mounting of correct tires for next week. Found two tiny rust-thru holes in floor where a full length middle seat would mount. Bummer there. |

| Pulled off the luggage tub for a new seal and it was full of dirt and crud under there. I guess from all the dust storms here. Removed the rack and solor panel to paint the top ( gloss white). Had 4 cans of L63H mixxed today local to touch up under the tub and drip rail. Removed and preped the bumbers too. $180 at the paint store today and my BD order was $350 for seals and other maintance items I ordered. Ouch! I think when I do replace the ceiling panel up front, I'll make 4 access holes big enough to get a socket through so I can remove the luggage rack without having to drop the back of the panel to access the nuts. I know i need to do that more often to keep that cleaner up there. More prep tomorrow and paint early sunday before it gets hot so the paint evaporates or drys before it hits the surface. What a pain in the butt dealing with the heat here. |

Good going Jim with your refresh. These Haboobs have been a pain this summer. News is saying we've had 18 do far this monsoon season. I've had new cooler pads for my evap cooler for months but havn't wanted to install them. And get them clogged up real quick. The current ones are totally junked up but we will be through with the 100's in a month.
Are you going to be ready by Jerome? You go there don't you? |

Last weekend I replaced all the windshield washer hoses and nozzles. Replaced the wiper switch with a good used 1 that has a good diaphram. Put washer fluid in the container. Aired it up and everything still works perfectly a week later.
I've never had a Bus with a working washer system. It's not the best system, with the nozzles squirting 1 straight stream, but works none-the-less. |

Replaced "motorcycle" headlights today to get ready for first PA inspection on Monday. Also changed the Kadron filters and housings to new/old ones from Kaddy Shack so I could get the oil fill breather vented into the carb.
New housings were a tight fit but look good. Tires and alignment coming Monday as well. |
