drilled out the broken exhaust stud and put a time sert in. luckily it all went very smoothly, im happy with the results of the work. Reassembled exhaust system, and unfortunately the bus sounds no better than it did before (have a strange pop/tic, seems to be coming from the top of the engine on the passenger side). i am now considering checking torque on the heads.

Installed my newly ceramic coated heat exchangers, cleaned, primed and painted the battery trays and installed a new Westfalia front mounted spare tire carrier (bumper mounted). It was a productive day!

I've been busy. I have installed my ceramic coated heat exchangers and rest of the coated exhaust up to the muffler (I will add to that post when I get it all together), I should get my new mufler and tail pipe back from the coaters this week. I drilled out and tapped my crossover piece so that my new muffler strap will work, no more huge hose clamp to hold my muffler on. I installed my new Brazilian Bay mirrors. Installed new german door seal on the driver's side. (Passenger side was done a while ago to keep the cold air off the wife). Installed new Gene Berg shifter. Installed my wheelskins leather wrap on the wheel. Fixed some broken westy curtain holders with new leather ones from Go Westy. I am waiting on the new parts to come in to do my front ball joints and heavier sway bar. Any one want to point me toward any good ball joint replacement posts? Thanks 8)

I got my starter installed and the motor now spins. I just have no Idea why it won't fire.

I will have to double check everything. I think it is not getting fuel.

samba member dstefun {dave] came by and changed out my dash gauge cluster with a good one as the glass on the speedo and gas gauge were rattling around. he also hooked up 3 :? wires and bulb holders that were not connected. he also fixed my brake light and turn signal issues. we put new bulbs in also and now the cluster is bright and looks new. thanks again dave

After doing a big bike ride (145km, big by my standards), and going surfing for two hours, I came back and had to replace the clutch cable in the beach carpark before I could go anywhere. Oh yay.

I'm starting to get sick of this thing. It just never seems to be great, and after everything I've done to it, it bloody well should be. Rather, there's always something crap going on, almost always to do with the shithouse twin Solex carburettors.

I think I need to park it for a while and drive the one that works, the Splitty. Stupid TypeIV motors, giving me the shits.

Sigh. A.

Went on a parts hunt. On Friday I picked up a new set of rings for the 2.0. Also a cylinder hone, ring compressor, and ring pliers. Then yesterday it was off to the VW Orphanage to pick up some odds and ends. The PO had taken apart the door handle, and lost half the parts. My guess is the leg that unlocks the door had broken, as the door mechanism was very stiff, and replacement parts were never found. A good leg, return spring, and the little screw were all I needed. Thanks Boyd :D. Now the drivers door works like new. I removed the latch, cleaned and lubed it of course ;).

Wish me luck on what I'll find when I dig into cylinder #4 :P. Peace!

Yesterday I just finished installing new Monroe-Matic shocks all the way around. A new CV Joint Boot and all new calipers and brake shoes. I also undercoated the wheel wells, installed my electronic ignition, set the valves, changed the oil, added a new positive battery cable, deep cleaned it for the warm weather heading our way, and replaced all the fuses, and light bulbs, and installed an electricity shut off for my battery. Not to mention the complete body work and paint job it got two months ago. Ready for another season of CAMPING!
-NOTE-
This all was done within the last couple days, not just yesterday

Today I grinded all the rust out of the bottom of the windows, painted over the bare metal. Installed the front and rear lights. Installed drivers door ardware and glass.

This is what it looked like before I did the improvements.

I'm new to the bay world. Just got this 3 days ago, and I can't stop working on it.

The pshycodelic paint won't be around long.

Is that the bay from east TX? I was hoping to get back to TX in time to get that one. Didn't look to have very much rust on it other than the norm.

Good score man!

As for my bay, I started unpacking it from the move back to TX from AZ. Man I hate moving!

Anyone know a guy with a white bay w/ blackout windows in Rockwall?
I seen it a couple of times last week.
