Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean a boat tarp. I guess you would call it a canvas tarp. It would probably be about the same as one of the nicer all weather car covers. The boat has been sitting with the tarp on for several years and the tarp is now dirty.
Water alone isn't enough and I don't want to mess up the tarps water resistance. Is it ok to even scrub them? |

| Don't worry too much about the waterproofing. It eventually goes away but can be re-applied. The best stuff out there is DCS. It's sold by West marine. You can check it out on their website www.westmarine.com . I've seen this stuff in action and it's amazing. Treated a piece of kleenex and rubber banded it over a cup of water and left it hanging upside down for 6 hours. Not a drop came out. |

Depending on how large the tarp is, go to a laundromat and use one of the giant, front load machines, The agitation is more gentle than the typical home machine and you can put more in it. I use them for my painting drop cloths and I can put two 12x15 in one machine. The weave on the drop cloths is what prevents or slows paint or liquids from passing through.

I've used 303 but not DCS. I'll have to remember this and give it a shot next time. |
