View original topic: Hide Out Muffler on a bus

Has anyone ever put a hide out muffler on a bus. I just had my bus lowered and the single quiet pack that I'm using now hangs a little close to the ground then I care for. I would like to put a hide out muffler on (Muffler sits next to the Passenger side bank of cylinders). Has anyone done this? Can it be done with alot of mods.

Thanks - Ben

I had the same problem and I had to put the 4 tip monza muffler back on. It gives plenty of clearence, but I would rather have a single quiet pack tucked up there. I guess if you have a welder and a way to bend some pipe you could do your own. I guess i'll try this one day when I get the rest of my stuff done.

I just got a new engine put in and we put a Empi extractor exhaust system with a single muffler on the passenger side. They sell them strictly for buses dont get the bug ones. Mine doesn't hang any lower than the rear mount bracket. If you are able to bolt it all in there then add some heat to it with a jack under it, that will do the trick without putting any undo stress on the exhaust. It hangs really nice and there are no leaks. The extractor is a must for good cooling and getting the exhaust out with no back pressure. Good luck with it hope this helps. Anthony 70 bus

I went to a datsun 510 shop and they made one custom to fit in front of the left rear wheel and it sounds far more meaty then the bug pack. I cost me 300 bucks, I am in the bay area and a place called 5 ten datsun did it.

Where are you at? I had the guy at the mom & pop muffler shop across the street from my work (Covina, California) heat up and bend my quiet pack so it would sit better under the bumper of my '71. The guy charged me $10 and even re-painted it and made me a new hanger to prevent the muffler from shaking around! I believe a competent muffler shop can help you out. The problem is finding one that is willing to accomodate you.
