I am curious to find out what rims people are running, and what's available for off road and street use. I need to buy rims for mine, and I am having trouble finding what I feel is a good looking, strong off road rim that is street legal. A few points:
1) I don't want Centerlines (too many Baja's have them)
2) I don't want white spokes (see comment above)
3) need to be 5 wide lug pattern
The car came with Jackman Alumastars in front and Ultra wheels w/ bead locks in the rear. Since both are out of production, and hard to find, I sold both sets to find some other type of matching rims. McKenzie's has a really good looking rim that looks really strong, available with or without bead locks, but both styles are not DOT approved.
I have been to a lot of web sites looking for rims, but many don't include pictures which makes it difficult. So let's hear it... what rims are you running on your Baja? |

Man you should have kept the Jackmans, you could have found two more.
Walker Evans wheels are what's going on my 4 seater.
Centerlines were on the baja and 1600 car.
Do cops check wheels for a DOT rating? |

I kind of agree with uncle dirty. With the exeption of an obvious beadlock wheel, I don't think the average guy is going to know if they are DOT approved or not. If you choose to keep it legal, you are pretty much limited to Centerlines, Mitchells or chrome steel wheels. However, I think DOT approved wheels are your least concern in keeping your car safe from Johnny Laws watchful eye. Personally, I would run the McKenzie or Robby Gordon wheels on the street and not think twice, but I am too much of a cheap fawker....lol

spend 4 days in the desert and it's was wonderful weather.
I wonder who was lucky guy who purchased the Jackmans from Skidmark.
there was American racing Baja wheels with a big centercap and believed it was 8spokes.I tried to explain to several people but, unknown.
or Empi Sprintstar 5 lugs are desirable wheels for the Baja.
I ran chromed Empi Sprinstar 4 lugs on my 72 Baja.
it's only 5.5" width but skinny enough to fit 31 LT on the rear.
Our club DSSK start the Off road forums please check it out.

Bajaherbie, SHMO.... I guess I grew impatient searching for matching rims. Besides, being out of production presents a problem if you damage one.
You guys never answered my question - what wheels are you running on your cars?
DeMinimis - I didn't include you in that since you were responding to someone else. But as long as you chimed in, what's on yours? And depending on how anal the cop wants to be, I wouldn't be surprised... |

Mine are steel, and they are the 4 lug pattern. I chose the chrome modular for strength, but they are heavy. Not the coolest part of my car, but I don't plan on breaking one either.

If you want strong and light you can't go wrong with Centerlines.
If you do taco one, and I have, you have them straightened.
Here's a shot of my wheels, pre-taco :D
A set of Robby's would look way cool 8)
I'm going with these on my little 4 seater.

I have used Rivieras for years with no problems. I know they are 4lug, you asked what we are using. I like them Robby Gordon wheels. Later, Mitch. |

| Those Walker Evans wheels look pretty cool, but at $375 a pop I don't think I will go that route. Anyone have an idea what those KarTek wheels run for? I imagine those Robby Gordon wheels aren't cheap, either... I like all three of these styles, but budget will dictate to some degree. I saw the Walker Evan's wheels at the 4x4 show in Pomona last weekend. He was even in the booth signing autographs. I guess old desert racers never die, they just go rock crawling! |

The tire on my last Alumastar is a junk tire. It will go with the wheel... I will bolt it to the car and get a spin on it with an indicator for you. It may just be a bent bead... |
