| There is one in the works. It's a side project so it's taking a little while, but I had this idea couple of months ago and have been working on it in my free time. :) |

| I emailed Kevin who does the split one here on samba, we'll see what he say's. This site really has come a long way and brought us enthusiasts together across the country. |

I think the Oval Window registry is a great idea, it's sounds like a monumental task but it's got to start somewhere. There's a registry in place for the Barndoors and Splits...I think it's time for the Ovals. I have an Australian 1957 RHD CKD Oval. A registry for these would be cool as well.
Great job Corwin, let me know if you need any help.

I'm working right now to figure out what format is best.
I've got the domain name (ovalregistry.org) and design down, but you're right - it's a large job. I'm leaning towards Microsoft Sharepoint, but there are some other possible formats as well. It will be similar to a forum, but more reference-oriented.
One of the things I'm trying to figure out is the amount of info to collect vs. what to actually display on the site. Obviously people don't want their email address posted up on the web for spam reasons, but would a full VIN be okay with people? These are the things I would like some input on. Here's what I'm thinking of collecting vs. displaying. Back-end database will be secure and not shared with anyone.
Collected info:
Name
Email
Phone (optional)
City/State/Country
VIN
Color (Int/Ext)
Pictures
Any bio or car history info
What will be published online:
First name
City/State/Country
VIN (maybe all but last two digits?)
Colors
Pics
Edited bio/history
What do you guys think? It would be great to have a working record, maybe if a car is sold the new owner will update the car's profile, etc. Would lend value to not only the cars but the community as a whole (I think). |

This is sounding great. Just last week I found out a ton of info on mine. I found out who the original owner was and that he was a chairman of the department of physics and astronomy at the state university. Bought the car new when he was in Mainz, Germany and brought it back with him. 8) I feel smarter already.

I am down with this idea. I think it would be a lot of fun and could help bring a lot of the local oval owners together. The more Oval guys i meet the more i learn about my car and early VW's in general.
Sign me up!
Corwin,
Are you going to the XXX this weekend for the cruz thing? Unless it is heavy down rain i will be there in primer!

The Split Registry looks like a great way of doing things, maybe you could ask Kevin for some input:

Thanks, that is very useful I agree. The system I'm working on is very similar but maybe a bit more images and graphics. That does help show what content people are interested in though. :)
I'll definitely ask him about it. |

| I'd be happy to include cars up through 57. I'm already working on barndoor buses and lowlight ghias, and I've already gotten oval verts. But its going to take me some time. I'm still working on the pre 53 stuff. |
