To cut a long storey short I refitted the stock rims to my 412 Variant in an effort to get to the bottom of the wheel wobble I had. It diminished significantly with the narrower lighter wheels but never vanished.
I have finally stopped the wobble completly now by changing the steering damper, tie rod ends and front struts (all were found to be defective, believe it or not). However the replacement front struts came equipped with short springs (not chopped) lowering the front end by about 2-3". Which I quite like
It drives well like this and does not bottom out on the suspension at all even on the rough roads around here.
Anyways back to the tyres. The stock rims are currently fitted with 165/80-15 and I want to refit the wheels that it had when I bought it, these-
However this will give a clearance issue as they are a 15X6" rim oppossed to the stock 15X4.5" rim. The stock wheels have a tendancy to rub the wheel arch on full lock (I was going to adjust the steering stop as it only does it on full right hand lock) therefore, if I understand things right, I need to reduce the profile without reducing the width and possibly in the process finding a more readily available tyre size.
How will this affect the car to drive, I guess the speedo will be out and the car won't have the same top end cruising speed but I could live with that if it is nothing to severe :?
Therefore back to my original question, what sizes do you run and on what size rims?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
OR I can refit the original stock springs and go back to the stock height and not worry about resizing tyres  |

Thanks for the help guys.
I have now had 185/65-15 tyres fitted all round and returned the car to the stock ride height.
It is a tad saggy at the back but I think this is symptomatic of many 412s. |
