View original topic: Replacing Jalousie Windows

Hey all,

I've seen windows other than the normal jalousie windows on westys and was wondering what that's about? Do they have a name I should look for? Is it just a matter of popping out the old ones and putting in the new ones? The one I've been looking at is a sliding window. I think this might be more practical for me.

Thanks!

Jeez, why don't you like the jalousies? I loved them on my old '71 - gave me dry ventilation when I ran the heater in the rain while camping. But I know the sliders you are talking about - they came on '68 to '79 ASI/Rivieras. You'll find most of 'em on the West Coast. The dead giveaway on them is that rather than popping up at an angle, the top comes straight up. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info.

I actually do like the jalousies....I had them on MY '71 too :-)

I'm just think about changing for the extra ventalation while driving, I very concerned with keep the van cool this summer, I have 3 pugs and heat isn't good for them. Plus I made the mistake of letting my girlfriend see a van with the ASI windows LOL! We're already fighting about the VW green. This is just a thought, I doubt I'll actually do it. I DO need to pull them out anyway and replace all of the seals.

The sliding window appeared on 78 passenger vans I think. If you you can find one from the junkyard you can replace the jalousie without too much difficulty or so I've read.

The ASI Riviera sliders have a screen on the inside. The VWs ones do not. Bus Depot actually carries new ones if you are interested:

Sliding Window, drivers side center (opposite sliding door), Genuine VW (use 221 845 321A seal)
$139.95
56631

Sliding Window, fits in sliding door, 68-79 bus, Genuine VW (use 221 845 321A seal)
$139.95
56632

Center Side Window Seal, no Vent Wing or Slider, no Molding Groove, 68-79 Bus
$19.95
221 845 321A

That's not too unreasonable. Maybe towards the end of the summer. I have hundreds of dollars spread out between busdepot, gowesty amd wolfsburg at the moment......I need to get some of these deliveries in before I buy new stuff
:-)

The good thing is when those boxes start coming in, every day will be like xmas for a bit LOL

Keep checking the local junkyards, you might get lucky, they're easy to switch. Jeremy
