Yes, it must be Texas Yellow (L10B).
In '72, Saturn Yellow was only available for the convertible and the European May beetle sedans. I think that the production plate indicates "08" as the color code.

Nice score, Icy!
Hard to beat for the price you paid.
Good luck with the project. |

Interesting that in the Samba paint archive that Texas Yellow is so dark and muted, while on the 1302 Super website it is a bright color. That's why I believe mine to be Saturn Yellow, because the chip on the Samba appears to match my vehicle. Is there any identifier on my car that would tell me the correct paint code? |

Yes, there is a production plate near the chassis plate on the front apron. The number rotated 90 degrees shows the factory paint code. Yours must be 08 if it's Texas Yellow.
In '71 models, production plate is at the bottom, where in '72 models at the top.

| The yellows here on the samba in the archive are off. Saturn yellow is almost flourescent, and texas is light in color, but much more muted. Here is a Sports Bug, Saturn yellow. |

| My car just has the metal tag near the latch mechanism with a sideways number of '179'. There's no production tag of any type that I can find. Based on the picture comparison, mine is more likely to be Texas Yellow, and when the day comes to repaint the car I will stick with that color. |

| I have to ask, what is the funky tool you are using on the rear axle nut? Did you heat the nut up first and then use this tool? It looks like it beats what I had to do, heat the nut up to near glowing and then use air tools and a long cheater bar. Is the tool commercially avaiable? |

Thanks. To date, I have had the rims blasted and trued. I need to clean and paint them. The fuel tank has been boiled and sealed by a local radiator shop. Glenn rebuilt an .019 distributor for me; I had my locks rekeyed (door and glove box) by Gabriel Garcia (gabvwkey); and since I am pressed for time, Keifernet is assisting me with a shortblock. The interior, for the most part, has been cleaned out of all loose dirt and other crap. I am awaiting new brake parts and have my backing plates soaking in my solvent tank. As soon as I get the rims painted I'll be getting some new rubber installed. My next parts buy includes replacement window rubber, shocks, struts, and ball joints. |

| Sounds like your making more progress on your project than I am on mine. Disc brakes on front this weekend, then drums on back, new windshield and I'll be ready for inspection. My son is straightening out the bumpers today. |

Have you checked for the paint code sticker inside the trunk, on the left fenderwell?

You should get the Super Beetle Restoration guide by Ryan Price. That was a 1971 IIRC. Good book, really helpful. Nice project, I am a fan of Supers, a rust free Super may replace my Oval someday. Bass ackwards, I know...
