Have you checked for the paint code sticker inside the trunk, on the left fenderwell?

Nope, I've looked all over in the trunk and nothing there.

Well, there went my plans for rebuilding this engine. Something went through the roof of the case.

Even though I have an engine lined up for now, I was hoping to rebuild this one in the interim; however, all is not lost. I was digging through a parts car I hauled home a few weeks ago that happened to have an AS41 case sitting inside. Just a bare case. I'm going to take it to my local shop this week and have it inspected. If it passes, then I'll most likely take most everything from this engine and build up the AS41.

That looks a lot like the engine I pulled out of my 70 bus 10 years ago. I did manage to get it to fire and drove it a half a mile or so. I also manage to fit that long block in the trash bin too.

Nice score Icy! Even with a "vented engine" case the car looks like a great project.

Was that a single port 1600?? Odd... They must have swapped engines from a late 60's bug.

My neighbor let me borrow his cutting torch today so I could cut off that home made towbar plate a previous owner welded to the frame head. With all of the front end pieces out of there I didn't have to worry about the excess heat damaging any seals or bushings. Cotton gloves and a short sleeve shirt are NOT proper attire!

Yeah! Seems my son was messing with the camera and sent me back in time.

Snapped some pictures of what my Super now looks like with the home made tow bar adapter plate cut off.

Some more pictures of the #1 rod that let loose on the previous owner. The oil plate and screen were full of sludge and quite a few of the case nuts weren't even tight. I suspect a sloppy rebuild before the PO bought it (she drove it for a month). Both the cylinder skirt and the piston are cracked. The lump is the bottom of the rod.

Gee, I wonder why it "just stopped running?"

Nothing a little JB weld couldn't take care of.

Icy, is this thing running yet?
