I am trying to get my exhaust manifold off my A2 1985 16V Golf GTI.
I got all but the three on the bottom which are hard to get to. I tried to get an 11mm on them since they are rounded. (The 12mm socket did not hold)
It is also hard to get a pair of vice grips in there either.
Just wondering if anybody had any tips.
Thanks,
Roger |

| Take the next smaller size american or metric socket. Pound it on. Take off with rachet. Relace with new nuts. |

Thanks,
I finally got the 11mm socket to stay on the nuts. It took a lot of pounding. :)
All but three of the studs came out with the nuts. So I am going to try to get out the other studs and replace them with new ones.
Is putting two nuts on the stud and using a ratchet the best way to get them off? I have PB Blaster soaking them.
I will have to chase the holes before I get the new ones into the head. I will have to find out what thread they are. I am thinking maybe M8. I looked in the Bentley but all I saw was nut torque info.
Again, thanks,
Roger |
