Hi
Bought this old bus & slowly getting it in order.
Can anyone with some spare time tell me what the oil breather box is about & how to do maintenance on it.
The hose off mine is missing ( I guess a hose connects to the tube that comes off it ).....does it connect to the spout on top of the air filter box?
Thanks for any advice

Are you talking about the little, square box which sits on top of the engine-in front of the carb, and has a mtal clip with a round looking cap?
I too just bought an old bus, and have been trying to figure out what that was. I figured it was an oil breather as I can feel a little air coming out, but I don't know where the hose goes- and why the metallic clip? |

Yes that's it. Mine doesn't have a round top, rather oblong with a 1/2" short pipe coming out ( presumably for a hose ), held on by a spring clip.
The box must be removable ( like a tappet cover ) to clean a filter I guess ??
Haven't actually done so yet ( need a new gasket ).
I was thinking if oily air comes out of it ( when there's no hose on it ) that air will be sucked into the heater booster fan & make the bus stink?
Been looking for a pic of the setup. My manual doesn't help.

On my 72 a hose runs from the breather box to the air filter (oil bath). You should at least route a hose from the box to below the tin.

I have been told that you can do all sorts of things with the breather. I have a hose connected to mine and I just dump it out the back of my bus(not very enviro friendly). I have a set of dual 40 Webers and no where to connect the hose. I have been told that you can drill into the top of the airfilter and stuff the hose in there. I have seen people put a fiting on their valve cover to connect the hose. I have also seen people just leave the box as is(with no hose.
