| A friend of mine has a 2.0 FI motor. He said he noticed a loss of power and I noticed he was not firing on #4 after pulling the wire. I pulled the valve cover off and the rocker arm was loose as can be. The adjustment screw seemed to be almost all the way in. The push rod also seems to be seating to far into the engine. Was the valve to tight and he wore the cam causing the mass amount of clearance between the rocker arm and the pushrod. He only has a few hundred miles on it and I think he might of adjusted the valves incorrectly and the #4 was tight and finally wore the cam to the point that there was no interaction between the lifter and the cam. What is your guys thoughts and suggestions so that I can diagnose his problem. The push rod does not look damaged or bent and I have checked its length and rolled it on a flat surface |

| Get some "Marvel Mystery Oil" and put some of it in the engine and see if the lifter went bad, I am assuming they are hydraulic lifters. If the lifter collapsed and has failed to 'pump back up' then that should do the trick. Good luck anthony |

It sounds like you didn't tighten it up right and as the engine turned over it was loose right away.
Tell us more about the engine rebuild or do you mean 200 miles since purchase?
You didn't describe any abnormal lifter noise, but if it is hydraulic (steel 1-piece push rods) use a magnet and remove the suspect lifter. If it's been worn by the cam it will be pitted or it will be dished in the center. You can also test the lifter by trying to compress it by hand (impossible when pumped up). |

| Webcam 73 was used in this project. There is extreme amonts of valve clearance on both sides of the cam # 4 and #2. The valve must have been to tight and wore the cam down. I checked the oil and it has a mettalic glimmer to it on the sump plate. I am going to split the case tommorow and was wondering if everything inside the case should be replaced (rings.bearings,) What are some suggestions. The engine has 98 miles on it. Would this wearing of the lifter require a rebuild again!!!! |

you won't know til you tear it down, but I'd say why be sorry? at least bearings and polish the crank... P & L may survive and heads should be okay...
98 or not.... does not take much to ruin a bottom end.... |
