I need your help again!!!!

74 Transporter
1800 cc
Dual circuit MC
Power booster

I keep blowing the rear most (only) brakelight switch on the MC.
I have had the Prob for 2 years. 2 months ago I replaced the MC because of a leak. I hoped that would fix the Prob, but it did not. I have bought about 10 switches over the past 2 yeasr. AGHH! Can someone help me?

Thanks Again Guys and Gals

Look for a proportioning valve. At this point, the most likely problem. Either that or cheap Brasilian switches! Prop valve should be by the rear axle, if memory serves me right. Check Bentley. Hell, even HAYNES should show it! If the brakes feel and work OK other than the switch, I think you can still get a German switch thru Beck- Arnley. If not, try an OE switch from a wrecking yard. Those of us in the biz know that most replacement parts today are utter crap. The other day, I was installing a new "OE" temp sensor in a waterboxer Vanagon, and it blew apart when it was only halfway screwed in. I had to use a tap to get what was left of it out. The box said "BOSCH"- Made in TURKEY!!! Right up there with your Bosch electric fuel pumps.... Now made in the Czech Republic! All this is thanks to the good old European Union. Look at your Bosch spark plugs- Made in Turkey? Made in India? Brasil? Throw 'em away and go buy NGKs.
OOPS- I guess this is turning into a RANT. Sorry! Chris, I think you get the picture. Try a GOOD USED GERMAN switch. Then, go after the prop valve if that one blows. Oh, and make sure you're not overtightening the switch, too. JUST SNUG. That's why Hercules and Superman never worked on cars. :-)

Is a faulty proportioning valve causing a build up of pressure and blowing the switch? I never thought of that.

Could be. That would be my most educated guess if anything.

Not an exact measurement but the proportioning valve seems to operate fine.

How about the adjustment on the brake cylinder pushrod and if so how do you adjust it?
