My first beetle:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQ_MaY8Q9AE
Only 2 things that need fixing. The driver's side door handle doesn't move trying to turn it with they key, but will lock by hand. Might just needs some oil. And the driver's site seat adjustment knob doesn't lock the seat position in place very well. Anyone know what that part is called? |

thats nice and original
with the door handle its probably the same old story ppl are always breaking them and most just get a 2nd hand one so the key probably doenst match the ignition
if it works in the other door u can swap the door handles around
one screw hidden under the door rubber
the handles actually have the key code stamped on them
if they dont have the same code as each other u definately have another handle fitted |

Congrats on a clean, nice looking car. It looks like Kansas Beige, I like this color.
Looks like the seat guide rails or the rail stops are worn out. It's easy to replace, I guess.

Nice looking '71.
It looks like you need to adjust the brakes & parking brake. |

Yep - definitely going to Fredricksburg, but I think staying in Kerrville. Everything else already full. What part of Austin are you in? I'm North Central-ish. |

There should be a sticker inside the driver's side door jamb that tells the manufactured date. |

I'm in far South Austin. Slaughter off I-35.
I thought about camping in Fredricksburg, but I think I am just going to drive out there for the cruise on saturday, then drive out early for the show. the gas i use is going to be the same price as a hotel room. lol |

Take your car to a locksmith and he can re key the handle cheaply. I thought my ignition switch was gone but a lock smith made a new key from the no. on the old one and it's good now. Just the key was worn.
