Did that caliper catch a rock in the pic above?

paymonsbaja- Great job on the restoration/rebuild. What a difference! I really like the color also.

If I were you, I'd look into that steering system if you havent already. You've really done a great job of fixing the PO's work, don't leave that to chance. The rack is sort of hanging out there in the wind and as mentioned before the steering joints are at a pretty extreme angle. Both can easily be fixed and by the looks of things, you definatly have the skills needed.

I was locking up the brakes to do donuts!! How easy would it be to relocate the steering system and were to?

Figure out a better mount for your rack & pinion, preferably a little closer to the beam (and square) as things tend to flex the further they are away from their mounting point. Secondly, move your upper steering shaft joint up towards the steering wheel. You can usally get away with a good steering wheel mount and place the universal right in front of the sheering shaft to frame mount on the dash. You'd end up with a short shaft attached to the steeringwheel, a universal joint just in front of the dash and the majority of the steering shaft angling down to the R & P where there is another universal connecting it to your rack. This setup works fine but requires that you have a decent upper steering mount, anything flimsey and the whole system will flex. Good luck!

They were on there when we bought it so couldn't tell you for sure. They were 31x15r15...I think they were implement tires. Check in the Hot VWs mags.
