I have been diggin the look of foglights on a bus for a while now and was wondering who is running them? Pictures would be awesome!

I am trying to get an idea what setup I would like to go with, ie. size and color. Also, how are they mounted? I hate to drill into the bumper, is there any other way?

my fog lights
used the rear window defroster switch
they are swap meet lights and I drilled a hole in the bumper to mount

I had the option fog lights on my bus... I threw them out cause I thought they weren't an option for my westy, turned out they were. I now wish I had those fog lights.

I got these retro looking ones brand new. But I can't think of where now.

Great looks, quality and price. I did have to drill into the bumper, just about any lights will require doing so because of how close the bumper sits to the body.

I think I like the amber lights like some of the examples above, I don't like the idea of holes in the bumper but if it has to be done...

I might try fliping it and using the lower holes, we will see

The holes are little...maybe 3/8" Easily plugged.

Here's our '79. Drilled the holes before I painted the bumper - no big deal.

Can someone explain to me why fog lights are necessary. Do they just augment the lighting from your headlights or are they somehow special lights that will help you see through a low lying fog? Is the Amber glass of the fog lights of some significance too? I really like the look of them, but I just want to understand the practicality of them before I mount a set on my bumper. thanks!

Fog lights are nice too have when it actually is foggy, but in heavy rain and snow can decrease your visibility. I prefer to have them on all my cars because they have a wider beam that lights up the side of the road nicely and you can see all the deer/racoons/ect easier.

The low, wide angle amber light cuts through fog and increases visibility...

I know Nigel Skeet had suggested putting fog lights and driving lights on his bus, one for foggy condtions and one for greater visibility in other conditions. I would wonder how it would look with two sets of lights, one amber and one clear? Nigel could pipe in here, he is always helpful with information and pictures...

The yellow fraction of light has a long wavelength so it doesn't get bent out of shape and scattered as easily as the shorter blue wavelengths (seen with sky, water). THis is why it penetrates better. There is an intensity penalty though as the yellow lights aren't as bright as white at the same wattage. For the bus with its higher placed hi/low bulbs, fogs get the light lower helping light the road better with less glare for the driver.

I run some heavy juice bulbs in both my H4s and fog lights so I can't run both together. The yellow are nice because they do stand out more and work better in fog. In my winter car I have the ability to run both the low beam and fog at the same time and prefer having both white.

There is a bulb available which burns yellow - iodine crystal I think. You can buy clear lamps and change the bulb colour to either colour, just stay away from those blue colour HID mimiky bulbs for fog lights.

I have yet to transfer those lights over to my British specification, 1973 VW Type 2, so I don't have any pictures to show you. They looked quite elegant, with two above and two below the front bumper, of my 1974 Triumph Toledo 1300.

Both pairs of 7-inch, Lucas 20/20 Homofocal rally lamps (i.e. front fog & auxiliary driving lamps, have clear lens and the option of either 55W or 100W H3 quartz-halogen bulbs).
