squareback_fiend Wed Jun 04, 2008 9:13 pm

oh huh :?

so man you do have a neat bus but you really have got to let us know some more history on this thing

KOMBI MASTER Thu Jun 05, 2008 5:50 am

When my father first bought the kombi years ago, it was all original. after a year, they made a major body repair and changed some of the original parts, (like door handles, front windows and cabinet doors), they replaced it with japanese parts and copied the L300 van of mitsubishi (that time its a new model van here in the philippines). The good thing is, I kept most of the original parts of the bus and when i planned to restore it is easier for me to return it to its original state.

Ahhh I seen now yeah I can see those parts now crazy how they were made to fit your bus.

squareback_fiend Thu Jun 05, 2008 9:23 am

well look at that right on man good luck bringing her back are you going to stay with the bay window turn signals or back to the originals

glowplug Thu Jun 05, 2008 2:44 pm

AAahhhh, sweet sweet explanation. \:D/ I guess it begs the question 'Why would you copy that thing?' but it's actually really cool that you guys can do that sort of work and make some things look like they are supposed to be there (door handles). The surprising thing is that I'm really digging the sliding door! It's grafted in really well. The bus looks too far.... 'not OG' to ever be correct again so I wonder why you tossed the slider. No offense, but it sorta looks better (and perhaps more functional) than the galv hand made doors and the bondoed-in track. Just my opinion. Keep up the good work, and be glad you have the talent to make something from almost nothing. :)

Thanks guys actually my father did all the concept on making our bus a kombination of L300 (mitsibishi) and kombi (vw). Because when they did that concept I think I was only 15 yrs old. I just kept all the orginal parts. Regarding the slidding door my father just combined the two cargo doors to make it a slidding door and the mechanism they put was the mitsubishi parts. For now, I alrerady bought 2 orginal cargo door to bring it back to its original and also the signal light. Anyway I'll post again the development of kombi Thanks guys for viewing my bus and giving any sugguestion on how can I bring back my bus again :D

I'm not a body shop expert, but I am willing to bet that the bus was hit in the front passenger side.

The first photo of the post is my reference. someone mentioned how it looked bulgy...
Notice how when standing in front you can see more of the front passenger door that you would expect to see (event though the camera is not centered).
Look inside the passenger headlight bucket at the weld seam... major bodywork.
Look at the top of the headlight trim on the passenger side in the sedon photo, how it does not smoothle flare out like the driver side.
My guess a front hit that damaged the front side under the headlight, hit hard enough to mess up the passenger and cargo door, and possibly prompting the major conversion to L300 copy.
Maybe explaining the 'stripper pole' metal support behind the passenger seat, and the imperfect door jambs on the passenger side.
I was even looking at the front roof above the passengers head for evedence of more bodywork.

BTW, what supports the rear hatch? A single gas strut type assembly on the passenger side?

This is just my guess, and what I suspect, but I could certainly be wrong.

I still like the bus, ( I would have kept the front and rear bumpers with the frenched in lights in them), and I like what you are doing to it.
I see you must be a little better off than most to afford to do this kind of work. be sure to prep and prime the dashboard too, since it needs to be painted to match...
You will be certainly driving a unique and attention getting bus.
Love it!!!!

Looking a lot better! What do you plan on doing to the interior? I see that you have access to a few OG parts (doors), but I think you're going to have a hard time installing an even remotely stock interior. Thats IF you can find seats and such. Looks to me like you guys can make pretty much anything though. It might not be a problem.

submachinegun Sat Jun 07, 2008 7:29 pm

do you plan to fix the flared front and rear fender well lips?

beetleboy58 Sat Jun 07, 2008 7:40 pm

Great job so far! keep fixing.

KOMBI MASTER Sun Jun 08, 2008 8:28 am

OK, I am an American Filipino and have spent some time back in the Phillipines. Now, the probability of this bus being hit is high if it was driven in Manila. So what! It is still a VW bus! I am proud that there are still some Deluxe busses that can be found and restored back there. It's cool that everybody is telling him what is correct and original and and doesn't belong, but you guys need to be a little cooler with the newbies! Post up some pics of your bus for him to reference his restoration! Way to go o your restore Kombi Master. If you need any help from us bus guys, let us know! I might even buy your bus and show at the Classic next year! How Much?

I agree, it is easy to pick all the flaws out on the bus. Keep in mind the the Philippines is famous for the jeepney. In my opinion his bus was customized like crazy.. no big deal. When I bought my 23 window it had shag carpets, a million holes in the dash for radios, a cb, some disco lights and a still in the back.

keep up the good work!
