It most likely had a V8 engine at some point, hence the need for a grill in the front.

That's a 47 that was found down near Texas. I remember seeing it in the gallery section of strictly vintage vw's (kabriolett.com) but the website isn't working anymore.
That front hood design is very unique.

Thats john dietchmans 47 bought in san diego years back and he recently pulled a 50 and 51 out of the same place. No v8 conversion, I believe its for cooling and the cars from africa.

Yeah 55 bundt (ryan) is correct thats my car out of san diego, still looks the exact same ,just been collecting parts for it and stroing buster for a while. The name came from the skunk that lived underneath it for 5 years while I waited patiently in quit to get it..By vw wolfsburg listing its one of 28 known to exist in the world.I know theres more than that around but they only have 28 registered while them as last i checked.
John Sherry knows this car he has seen it a few times and talked with me also. he might have just forgot who and where it came from.
It is a us military car and ryan was right it was sent to south africe and used there for many years then sent to cali some how where it sat behinda v dealership and was stripped of its part to fix other cars as it had no title..It does now..and yes it will be saved.. very very solid only one rust hole under hood and never been hit.does have soem damage where a tree rubbed against the roof rail though ..bummer but thats ok itspart of the cars history..
and also i did get a 50 ragtop and 51 ragtop both from the former owner..A very ice older guy that keeps his word even when offered 3 times what we had agreed to!!
later guys

wow, glad i posted this topic now. my first thoughs were a V8 but then where would all the front suspension go?

so its really quite rare, so rare infact that even some of the "better informed" on here didnt know about it?

will look great when running!

Junk it and run something like a Viva front axle just like Pops did when they had V8s fitted.

Those grilles look Topolino to me.

theovalguy Wed Apr 09, 2008 6:50 pm

the grille is homemade and looks like it took a hell of a lot of time to do it even has a rolled edge so it fits down into the trim installed as a grille.someone spent to much time on this thatst for sure and now i have to indo all that work unless someone has a extra front hood lying around collecting dust..I wish!!
