Listen to Marty, he knows his shit, we just threw the engine that he built for Anger Mangerment into the car ( I was just taking pics, lol) at Bug-in and it ran a 9.98et according to Dom, what a beast. I'll be getting my stuff fabbed up by him whenever I decide to go turbo. 8)

I'll post some pics sometime later today. It was funny, I've never seen that many people working on one bug at any giving time. Parts, and tools were flying here and there but it was cool to hear it run for first time.

now im seeming to have downpipe problems, i went to mach up the turbo today to check for fit and the turbine housing and downpipe do not line up and im not sure if i can loosen the bolts on the turbo and turn it to fit? check out the pictures on my profile...

VwBuM71 Sun Apr 13, 2008 6:32 pm

scratch that i tried turning the turbine to see if it would correct the problem, but no good...the downpipe bend is to extreme i need to either try to take some of the bend out of the downpipe to make a good fit or get another downpipe...

Marty Staggs Sun Apr 13, 2008 8:02 pm

Are you sure? The pics looks as if you could correct it by rotating.
That is NOT the "down pipe" - FYI. That is just the header connection to the turbine inlet.

VwBuM71 Sun Apr 13, 2008 8:05 pm

no i tried turning it...and sorry haha...aj calls it the "up pipe" but turning the turbine side still dosent correct the problem. im thinkin the bend is too much on the pipe....

miniman82 Sun Apr 13, 2008 9:18 pm

Reclocking the turbine housing, and cutting/welding the downpipe is probably the best option. Clock it so you can bolt the turbo to the header, then modify the downpipe as required.

VwBuM71 Mon Apr 14, 2008 9:44 am

well i cant clock the housing at all, if i did then the wastegate wouldant work at all....so im just going to have to mess with the pipe n see if i can get it to work

miniman82 Mon Apr 14, 2008 9:57 am

Can you cut some length off the intake pipe, and make up the differance with a section of rubber hose? That would allow you to bolt the turbo onto the header, then if there's any bend at the intake, the rubber would allow some flex.

Edit- it looks from your pics like it's hitting the shroud? If that's the case, you don't have much choice but to cut and weld, or see if you can bend the tubing a little. Have you PM'd AJ to see what he says about this?

yeah if i were to tilt it at all it would hit the shroud, so my last choice is to cut and weld the up pipe to let the flanges seal properly. and ive tried calling him but, no answer...im gonna keep trying and see what he says before i go cuttin and welding.

alright so i went to a local genius (steve of panzer inc.) and he told me to simply clock to turbo and he would help me mod. the wastegate actuator so it will work. :D so low and behold i came home, mached it all up and it fits, now all i gotta do is install the lockout dizzy, run my new throttle cable, run fuel line to the carb and start tuning.

the mach up pics are in my gallery. i think it looks purty good.

miniman82 Mon Apr 14, 2008 3:25 pm

Yeah, you can bend and weld the actuator arm however you need. Hope it works out. :D

VwBuM71 Mon Apr 14, 2008 4:38 pm

thanks man, me too...im pretty stoked to get it goin now that i see what its gonna look like!

beetleboy58 Sun Apr 20, 2008 9:18 am

any updates?

VwBuM71 Sun Apr 20, 2008 5:08 pm

yeah, the intake manifold dosent work so i gotta cut it to fit, and but a longer piece of silicone tube becuase the other side aint long enough to the end casting.....just 1 thing after another...

im not very happy at this point, its become more a challnge to get it goin, taking all the fun out of it
