It's all worthwhile the first time you hear the compressor spool, trust me.
The first time I drove the EFI/Turbo bug I built, I didn't even give it full throttle (rought tune on it then). Even so, it still sent a tingle up my spine when I heard it. Just daring me to dream of things to come...

That's why you just get fed up like me and say 'F it, I'll build my own stuff'. I spent more on the tools to build my turbo engine than I did on the parts, but the end result is better than any of the kits out there. I got exactly what I wanted, and I can build another kit if I wanted since I now have a MIG welder, metal shaping tools, grinders, files, a full drill index....

Like many builders say; buy once, cry once.

yeah man i totally agree, from now on im gonna be buildin my own stuff.
this way ill get exactly what i want and ill know it works and ill know exactly what parts are in it. i already got all the tools i need, but the kit was available and quick to buy thinkin it was gonna go together. so like you said, buy once, cry once.

if im doin another turbo motor its gonna be EFI and my own set up.

LOL...i thought the same when i bought an AJ kit, brand new, from a fellow that got tired of waiting in it and went CBturbo/injection.... i had to modify the intake and the "up-pipe" to work.... wasn't real impressed with the "bolt on" kit.... it does perform well once i modified it to actually fit an engine it was designed for...

You know how it is around here- VIDS/PICS, or it didn't happen man!!

VwBuM71 Sun Apr 27, 2008 5:49 pm

haha alright i got a vid off my phone but its crappy quality, and i finally got the crab dialed in, fattened it up a bit and took it down the road on 5lbs and she pulled pretty good.....just excited to fine tune it and up the boost a few more lbs.

miniman82 Sun Apr 27, 2008 6:01 pm

I know the feeling.

To get some more kick off boost, you should look into getting a vac advance dizzy with MSD 6BTM box. That will allow you to run more timing off boost, and still get boost retard to ward off detonation.
Have you looked into Megajolt yet? I'm finishing up the wiring on my Turbo Corvair MJ install right now, and hope to have it fired up by the weekend. It uses Ford's EDIS coil pack ignition with crank trigger wheel, and it gets you ultra stable programmable spark timing. Total cost for me was around $180, so it's competitive. Something to think about.

there it issss...its REALLY crappy lol but at least all you disbelievers can hear it run

VwBuM71 Sun Apr 27, 2008 6:11 pm

well i got plenty of kick before boost, its not terribly sluggish, but it would be nice to have a lilmore timing, i might look into that later on. but for right now i want to see what it does at the track with this setup before i go droppin c/r's and adding boost.

sweetlokin66 Sun Apr 27, 2008 6:51 pm

I take it the fitting held up.
