265/65/15.....and i have 32 pounds in the rears.....never dropped the pressure i at least want some tire spinning because i got a stock tranny n axles lol

yah spinning tires with a stock tranny isnt too good.

im not a pro, but you dont need full throttle to accel fast. dont rip the tires, but let them squeel

again, im no pro!!! not trying to be a dick at all :D

yeah i understand what your saying...next time ill try to feather it off the line a lil bit to reduce tire spin...but for the 1st time out at the track EVER i dont think i did half bad lol

Not bad for a bolt on turbo that in reality bolted on pretty easy with only a few tweaks needed!

Just as 'bolt on' as most 'bolt on' things are.

dog_jr911 Mon Jul 21, 2008 8:17 am

what comp ratio are you running, and boost pressure?

are you getting boost in first gear, or is it taking a while to spool?

VwBuM71 Mon Jul 21, 2008 9:38 am

im runnin 8.5:1 c/r and at the track i was runnin 8lbs. but since then ive turned it up to about 12. and im gettin boost in 1st gear, somewhere around 4...5 pounds.

looking to put a type 2 box in my super beetle now, i went to the races last weekend and the tranny let go while doin my burnout. but i got an 8.80 @78mph out of her on 10lbs of boost  i was just wondering if anyone else has done this swap and what does it take to do it?

sweetlokin66 Wed Jul 30, 2008 10:11 am

Mooreparts has a solid mount bus to bug adapter and the shift coupler you will need. If im not mistaken your also gunna need thing outer stub shafts and thing cv joints (100mm which is the same as bus). You can use the stock beetle axles (I think). We upgraded to thing cv joints (100mm) on the vert.

My best was 8.80 @ 84 in the 1/8, 2.1x 60-ft. The next run, I got a 2.0 60-ft but missed third gear, overreved the hell out of the motor, and obliterated the top ring on #3.

You have just discovered the joy of a turbocharged Beetle.

haha heck yeahman, thats why im scorin a type 2 box so i dot have to play around with anything anymore...im just gonna run the 6 rib tranny with my 8" slicks and hope for the best! :P

i hope i run better then a 8.80 with the slicks because i was spinning all through 1st gear and short shifting..

im sure a t2 box is stronger than t1 but if the gears are 40 years old w/ 40 years of wear and tear on them im sure something will break just as fast as with a t1 transmission...

your best bet is to rebuild the t1 box with a couple hopups and adress your suspension/tranny mounting. get rid of any and all wheel hop or youll break trannies no matter how well they are built

well my tranny right now has a solid rear mount, and a mid strap...and im rollin 265's out back and i have no wheel hop at the race track, only tire spin.

No offense, but spinning tires with a stock trans IS good, a chain's only as good as it's weakest link.
You put some sticky tires on there and hook up...there goes the trans.

You'll find the 1st gear ratio in the bus box is SO low that it's almost completely worthless in a street car w/stockish sized tires. If you were running a 31" tire in a Baja it would be OK. I think you'll be dissappointed with your results.

well its not a street car, im only looking to use the car on the 1/8th and 1/4 mile....ive retired its use on the street for now.

never mind all, change of plans ive decided to ditch the bus tranny idea, and i decided to just swap out the busted tranny for a known good IRS tranny, and just make it a driver for now. i dont have all the $$ to spend to do all the upgrades and what not for now. but while i have the tranny out i might purchase a truss bar and traction bar to prolong the life of the new tranny. :)
